New Year, Same Old Self

What is a New Year's resolution other than a forced goal from society to change yourself?

New Year's resolutions are a great thing to have. It sets a goal we hope to achieve. Whether your resolution is to cut down from all the calories consumed from the past few holidays, or to curve up your GPA. However, most resolutions fall flat by February and that is why I refuse to make one. I do have goals still but rather than making it specific to a new year, make it happen now. I personally do not believe when people say new year, new me, because these goals are normally good with intention but overall frivolous and follows social trends just to say you are with the in crowd. Why care about having to make some new mark to hit because a new year has commenced?

Time in itself is a construct of human interpretation and in the end only counts rotations on our axis and around the sun. We have been so invested in structuring every detail of our lives to a point where I know people who time their showers. Why must we continue to have to change things in our everyday life on a set basis of being a new year? Why not admit that we will change when we are good and ready, and not because it is another January 1st to have passed? We follow a daily trend with our academic schedules, work schedules, and even when it is appropriate to post a picture of yourself or someone else to a specific day.

Now I am not saying abolish it and crash any form of structure, but maybe do something outside of the box for once and make a goal whenever. In the end, the resolution is not about it being a new year, but about bettering yourself physically or mentally. It is okay to stray from some structure and not be exactly the same. There is no harm in doing either way, but a breath of fresh air, in my opinion, is a great thing to do. Please, make your resolutions and follow through. Prove me wrong on my earlier statement. But remember, you do not have to wait until the new year to make a change. I can tell you right not, this may be a new year, but it is going to be the same ole person I am. Good luck on your goals!

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
