Let's Try a New Resolution
As 2017 approaches, New Year's Resolution are everywhere. "Lose weight!" "Be happy!" "Get better grades!" While these are important things, I don't think that we need a new year to make improvements... many resolutions are individual changes to appearances, personalities, or performance that generally just happen naturally in response to something.
This year, try something new: New Year, New Places.
New Year, New Places
It can be so easy to get stuck in a schedule, going to the same places, doing the same things, and being with the same people. It's so important to EXPLORE and ADVENTURE and try things that may be new or weird or scary.
Challenge yourself to visit one new place per month. This may sound simple, and in fact, it is!
How To Do It?
Set a definitive new place, date, and time each month. You can make this something that you do with a set significant other, friend, or family member, or use this as an opportunity for me-time. It should be something that you can look forward to each month, and learn and gain in the process.
Where To Go?
Go outside of your neighborhood, town, and familiar areas. Really challenge yourself to go somewhere you've never been and explore. Get ideas from friends and family, and really start a conversation about doing new things.
Here are some ideas of places to visit:
1. National/state parks
2. An arboretum or garden
3. A tourist attraction you've never been to
4. Go for a hike in a new place
5. A new restaurant and order a dish you wouldn't generally try
6. A historical memorial or museum
7. A cool roof top (my favorite are rooftop gardens)
Here are some pictures from new places I've explored in the past few months for some inspiration
Get Inspired
Make a Pinterest board of places to visit, comment on Instagram pictures of places that look interesting, read signs for attractions, and research places on the Internet. Start a conversation. Maybe plan one big trip where transportation might be a bit more expensive, but you feel it is worth it.
Happy Exploring!
Go in with an open mind, and fill it. Comment your ideas, or your favorite one listed here. Have a wonderful New Year!
