"We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. This book is called Opportunity and the first chapter is New Year's Day." -Edith Lovejoy Pierce
How do you plan to write your book?
Well, let me tell you how I'm going to write mine.
I'm not going to dwell on the past- at least, not nearly as much. There are things that I can't change and I understand and accept that. I plan to look forward and better myself in ways that I know I can accomplish, instead of setting goals that are unrealistic. I intend to keep those I hold dear close to my heart, and burn bridges for those of whom I don't. I intend to change who I am- not in the sense that I'm going to change my entire personality and appearance, but how I look at things, react to them, and ultimately conquer them. I'm going to learn from my mistakes and not make the same ones again because, after all, they're in the past for a reason. I'm going to do better. I'm going to be better. And in the end, I will feel better.
With that, I have a word of advice. If you choose to have a resolution that will break you more than it will make you, you might want to rethink something; whether it be your strategy or the resolution altogether. This year, you should concentrate on picking yourself up, brushing off the dirt, and becoming a better you. You don't need to focus on other people's perceptions or opinions of you because who are you trying to impress? You're not doing it for them. You're doing it for YOU.
Let's face it, this year sucked. We all faced losses, heartbreak (s/o or otherwise), pain, etc. I don't know about anyone else, but ever since 2016 (the summer specifically, and excluding all the shocking celebrity deaths), everything has been going downhill and I am absolutely sick of it. This is the year that things need to be turned in a positive direction and we need to ask ourselves the realistic question: "what the hell have I been doing?"
If you've been bettering yourself, that's great. Just don't let your progress stagnate. Keep pushing yourself to be better. Whether it's with a job, school, fitness, self love, whatever the case may be. Keep moving forward, as the Robinsons would say (please understand that reference).
Keep the past behind you and look straight ahead. Opportunities of a lifetime are staring you in the face and you need to keep going so you can finally reach them- when do you, keep going and you'll find more. The only time you need to look at your past is when you're checking your rear view mirror so you don't make the same mistakes again.
So I'll ask again. How do you plan to write your book?
Happy New Year!
