If you are on social media, and chances are that's how you came across this article, all you've seen lately are people's New Year's resolutions.

"2016 is going to be good to me" or "New Year, New Me" are just a few examples of the nauseating posts you'll see this time of year. I should clarify that I am all for improving yourself, setting goals, and the power of positive thinking but I've had it up to here (points to the ceiling) with people somehow thinking that a change in a calendar will affect their lives. How about taking having accountability? You are in control of what happens, not some magical number that is one more than it was last month. I mean heck, our Jewish brothers think it's 5775 and you don't see those posts on Twitter.

I recognize that I may sound like a sour puss but this is something that truly bothers me. For some reason, people seem to look to put the blame on anything, whether good or bad. No one seems to understand that you are in control of what happens. I mean really, if you think about it, does it even matter what year it is? Seriously, I couldn't care less what year it is. As far as I'm concerned, 2016 is just another day.

You have to buy a ticket to win the lottery, no one just gives you a ticket. I think we should only celebrate the New Year every hundred years. I mean sure it's cool to go from 1999 to 2000 but that's really more about a fasciation with numbers. I mean what's really different about 2016 as opposed to 2015, sure there will be a new iPhone but what else really happens?

As far as I'm concerned it just went from Thursday to Friday. If you have goals for the new year like getting a new job, or graduating from school, or starting a relationship--work toward it. Don't ask some made up number to give you what you want in life.

But all jokes aside, have you seen the new 5776 Nissan Ultima?

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
