Hello, 2018

It's a New Year with a New Goal in mind.

Hello, 2018
Today

TEN years, it’s been TEN years since Taylor Swift sang of finding her sweet Romeo, Katy Perry kissed a girl and liked it, and Shawty had them apple bottom jeans and boots with fur. It sure does feel like each and every year since 2008 we all set goals we do not plan on keeping and post pictures on New Year’s Day with the same silly caption, “new year, new me” And then by mid-February those goals are as good as trash. Yes, yes it does. How about we change that? How about us millennial’s change the coarse of time and do something radical in 2018? Let’s LOVE a little more and hate a little less. Let’s GIVE a little more and get a little less. Let’s SMILE a little more and frown a little less.

Some of you may be thinking, how do I Love, Give, and Smile more? In Deuteronomy 6:5 says, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength” To those of us who grew up in the church, we have heard this a million times. We think we understand what this is saying. The question I am asking is, do we really LOVE the LORD our GOD with ALL our heart and ALL our soul and with ALL our strength. I will admit that I do not; I fall short of the glory of GOD. In 2018, may we all strive to LOVE the LORD more and HATE the things that the LORD does not LOVE. In 2018, let’s also GIVE more and GET less. When did we become so stinking entitled that we always have to get a reward? Living in the United States in 2017, was scary and so many negative and destructive things happened. The one event that happened during 2017, that made me smile was when J.J. Watt of the Houston Texans raised over $37 million dollars for Hurricane Harvey recovery. There are interviews of J.J. saying that he wanted no praise for his effort, he just wanted to help a broken and hurting community. He just wanted to help, and help without the expectation of a reward. Why don’t we all agree to make 2018, the year where we GIVE without the expectation that we have to GET anything in return? In 2018, I pray so hard, that we all may SMILE more and FROWN less. I am so sick of everyone right around college finals time, posting about how there life is a mess and they are so done with their classes. Let’s make 2018, the year where we SMILE because we get to go to College. Let’s make 2018, the year where we SMILE because we have the ability to wake up every day and see the world in front of us. Instead of FROWNING at the sight of Art Appreciation on our class schedules, and FROWNING because we don’t have time to stop at Starbucks (or Java City) before class. Let’s SMILE because GOD is allowing us to pursue our dreams and passions at such a place. I pray that we leave the FROWNING in 2017 and bring the SMILING into 2018! Let’s make 2018, the greatest year yet and my prayer for any one reading this is that you make it a goal to LOVE, GIVE, and SMILE more in 2018!!

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Blair Waldorf
Stop Hollywood

For those of you who have watched "Gossip Girl" before (and maybe more than just once), you know how important of a character Blair Waldorf is. Without Blair, the show doesn’t have any substance, scheme, or drama. Although the beginning of the show started off with Blair’s best friend Serena returning from boarding school, there just simply is no plot without Blair. With that being said, Blair’s presence in the show in much more complex than that. Her independent and go-getter ways have set an example for "Gossip Girl" fans since the show started and has not ended even years after the show ended. Blair never needed another person to define who she was and she certainly didn’t need a man to do that for her. When she envisioned a goal, she sought after it, and took it. This is why Blair’s demeanor encompasses strong women like her.
