Welcome to 2017. If you have not noticed, this is the year that everyone and anyone expects to be amazing, since 2016 was so "horrible." Social media is flooded with the usual "new year, new me" promises that everyone makes to the themselves, except this January they are accompanied by people publicly begging 2017 to be better to them than last year. Everyone is complaining about what happened in 2016 politically, globally, personally, emotionally, etc.
So, what does this say about our society?
Everyone. Is. Super. Dramatic.
Sure, 2016 was an interesting year to say the least, and I'm sure it wasn't the best for a lot of people. I don't profess to know what happens behind closed doors, what goes on in people's minds, or how others are affected by their day-to-day lives. At the end of 2016, which was only a week ago, everyone and anyone wanted the year to be over and felt that this world could use a fresh start. I was/still am one of them. I look forward to the new year every year, as it does feel like a whole new chance to do things you never thought you could or change your life in the best way, a way that can bring lots of joy, laughs, and success.
But remember, resolutions are only good if you keep up with them.
So, if you really want 2017 to be better than 2016, YOU have to make it happen. Do not wait around for the world to fix whatever you think is broken. Change things yourself, work hard, be someone who can feel accomplished by the end of this year. And most of all, try your hardest not to feel personally victimized by things you don't like, otherwise known as things you cannot control, AKA Donald Trump becoming President of the United States.
I know personally, I have many goals for this year. I want to throw myself into certain passions, workout more, and figure out a semi-regular sleep schedule (difficult for college students and kind of a long-shot, but I'm definitely going to try).
A resolution that I wish the entire world would try to accomplish in 2017 is to be more positive. I know it's difficult to be happy 100% of the time, especially since there's a lot to be sad about and you can't turn on the news without feeling depressed, but just a little positivity can go a long way. Instead of concentrating on the negativity, like most everyone did in 2016, try to focus on the better things in life. Channeling energy into feeling happy rather than angry/upset could do a little for a lot of people, including yourself.
So be positive, be your own solution, and be ready whatever 2017 is going to throw at you.
