December is a busy month in the United States. For college kids its a month long period of bliss that is freedom from stuffy classrooms, long nights, and difficult homework. But it is also a month full of holidays. Beginning on the 25th of the month, we celebrate christmas with lights and decorations all around. But it doesn't stop there. We then move to the last day of December, the 31st or New Years Eve. The day that everyone becomes nostalgic and reflects upon the past year and all they have done. Many even make a statement that they want to change something in the upcoming year more commonly known as a New Years Resolution. But as these resolutions become ever more popular, the question we must ask is are we really going to change, or are we just lying to ourselves?
Standing on the threshold of two years it is only natural to look back at where we have come from and then look forward to where we are headed. And like any human being, we want to do our best. It is a drive that is inside us all. So as we look back we see the mistakes we have made and the things we want to do better. A new ears resolution is our way of stating the changes we want to make in the upcoming year. However, it all comes down to intention.

This quote above is one that really and truly hits the point that I want to make. A new years resolution, like anything else in life is only as good as the intention behind it. Intention is what decides whether or not we will really follow through on our actions. This quote tells us to live with intention, Walk to the edge, and Listen Hard. These words show the true values behind honest living. You must stand on the threshold of life in a new year and listen to what has been and what is to come. Then and only then can you make a resolution that will truly withstand the trials and tribulations of the next 365 days. For when we stop to listen and consider, it forces us to really look into what it is that we need and want to change in ourselves. Not what society says we need to change, not what our friends and family say we need to change, but what we actually need to change. This is coming from someone who has severe ADD so trust me when I say that slowing down is the most beneficial thing to our decision making process.
So this year save yourself the shame and embarrassment of giving up on another resolution. Take a few days or a few weeks and really examine yourself. Reflection is good for the mind and the soul. So this time you can commit to a resolution that will be worth your time and will carry the intention that it deserves and the outcome that you deserve. Happy New Year to everyone. I hope that this year brings a wonderful change to all of yalls lives.
