So Long 2016!

Create an Intention.

So Long 2016!
"For last year's words belong to last year's language
And next year's words await another voice.” - T.S. Elliot

Recently, Facebook started the “5 things you should do in 2017”, and I thought of some intentions that I will focus on this coming new year?

Many people go with the “new year, new me” kind of change, or sit and write a list of resolutions they will attempt with the new year, but I think we need to focus on something a little more than that.

I don't believe in making resolutions. I am, however, a big believer in setting intentions. To resolve means to find solutions to a problem, and what you do and who you are is not an issue. The way this past year was, and how you showed up for it, was entirely necessary. There was a need for your growth. Now, we create a more positive intention, and some drive to push yourself to shift. Shift into an action where your heart is. Here are five intentions to focus on in 2017.

1. Let go of what doesn't make you happy.

If it does not consume you in a positive way, let it go. No one said we had to hold onto someone or something that doesn't make our existence better. You are in charge of your happiness, remember that more this year.

2. Love fearlessly.

The phrase “do not be afraid” is written in the bible 365 times. In 2017 use that as a daily reminder from God to live every day being fearless. Despite what heartbreak 2016 brought you, never give up on the magic that is left in love. Give up the “almost feelings” and take chances. Put yourself out there, and open up your heart to anything that comes your way. Have an underline hope, and love more.

3. Read more.

When was the last time you picked up an actual book and read it? I can't remember the last time I checked out a book and read it from beginning to end. For those who don't read out there like me, grab a good book and get lost in it. Put everything on pause and let your mind wander in the pages, and learn something new.

4. Do something new.

When is the last time you did something for the first time? We tend to say “one day,” or “maybe in another lifetime.” What if there isn't another lifetime for us? Money is always going to be something we won't have enough of. Don't let that hold you back, save up your pennies and just go! Go somewhere you never been before, embrace their culture, and put yourself in a new surrounding. I promise you won't regret it.

5. Be present.

We go through life just mostly existing. In 2017, be more present. Be full with people while sharing time. Avoid small talk, and engage more in deep conversations. Put down your phone, hit pause on the social media, and engage in conversation. Listen to others opinions and listen to their side of the story. Simply feel a place while you're in it. Wherever you are, be ALL there.

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?
