As the new year approaches, I can't help but reflect on all of the things that have happened throughout the past year. It seems crazy to me that another year has gone by. I am always amazed by all of the unexpected twists and turns that my life takes during the course of a year. There were definitely some negatives to 2017, but I want to focus on all of the positives. I have accomplished a lot more than I expected this year and I cannot wait to see what 2018 brings.

Here are 17 amazing things that happened for me in 2017:

1. I completed my sophomore year of college

2. I secured my first internship

3. I moved into my first apartment and lived independently for the summer

4. I hiked my first 5,000 foot mountain

5. I started my junior year of college

6. I found a summer job that I loved

7. I saw Coldplay in concert for the second time

8. I tried ice skating for the first time

9. I discovered a love for açaí bowls

10. I started making fitness a priority

11. I discovered lots of new places

12. I adopted two goldfish with my roommates

13. I went on a sunrise hike

14. I saw T-Pain in concert

15. I made new friends and met lots of new people

16. I discovered an interest in photography

17. I went on a lot of adventures

I did not expect most of these things to happen, but I am definitely glad that they did! Happy New Year!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
