New Year, Better Mindset

Have a different mindset this year.

What do many people say when a new year arrives? "New Year, New Me." This is an incorrect statement to many people who do not go through with their expectations and goals for the new year. Everyone wants to change for the better, but some people do have a full grown plan to change themselves or the positivity around them to help them reach that goal. People want to see you change, but many people say actions that they never act upon. It makes many people think what people are really serious when they say, "New Year, New Me." I would never say that saying because I will not change physically, but most likely have a better mindset to put up with the problems I may have to deal with in the long run. A new year should be new problems and mistakes, but better solutions to get through those obstacles in your way. I want everyone to know that a new year can be a restart button for everything you had done in the past year and changing for the better, not for the worst.

As the new year of being 2017, people must realize that to start off changing yourself in the right direction setting goals is necessary. When you are setting goals do not say you will do it, but make the actions to complete it. People love to say words, but when no action are put into thought, nothing is done. You will make a few mistakes, but actions are what will make a huge difference whether you do it correctly or not. Mistakes are good as long as you learn from them after committing them. The new year is just a saying for people to "change," but not many people change because they'd rather state change than do it. Meeting expectations is great and most people must always begin from small steps. Small steps need to be taken before taking large steps and goals must be obtained before ever trying to jump to conclusions. People must realize that a better mindset for the future is far more important than a mindset that no one ever imagined they could have. Think before you act upon something.

Alright guys, to wrap things up, the message I am trying to send is a new year can change you efficiently. It is up to you to change yourself and not that "New Year" mentality that comes across. I want others to know that life comes with boundaries and leaps you must take before falling. I love that everyone has ideas, but no action leads to failure of ever making that idea bloom. A person must fall before they can get back up and find out why they fell before progressing. A new year may or may not benefit, but it's up to you.

April Ludgate

Everyone who is in college right now, or has ever been, knows the struggle of pulling in the strings at the last second. It seems impossible, and you have to do a LOT of things in order to assure your future for the next semester.

April Ludgate, historically, is a very annoyed person, and she doesn't hide it. Of all the times that I binged and re-binged "Parks and Rec," her attitude relates more and more to me.

To The Cheerful Person On Their Rainy Days, You Are Valid

The world is not always sunshine and rainbows, and you do not have to be, either.

Ask friends of mine to name a quality about me, and one a lot them will point out the fact that I am almost always smiling. I like to laugh and smile -- not to quote Buddy the Elf in April, but smiling is my favorite! It is probably my favorite go-to expression. However, what a lot of people do not see is that I have my down days. I have days when smiling and laughing is a real struggle, or when I have so much on my plate that going out of my way to behappy takes more effort than I have stored in me. Be it a symptom of college and growing up or a facet of life, I cannot always be content.

Amidst my hectic college career, I always find time for one thing, even on the busiest weeks: Parks and Recreation. This show has made me laugh and has made me cry, but most of all I have related to this show more than I would like to admit.

Here are some "Parks and Rec" moments that relate to life struggles that just about everyone faces.

April Ludgate from Parks and Recreation is notorious for her "I don't care" attitude. She speaks her mind without caring what anyone thinks of her. And despite her sometimes harsh words, April truly cares about the people she's closest to. These are all reasons she is the epitome of a college student.
