New Year, New Me

Hello 2017!

New Year, New Me
Ashlee Poore

2016 helped me find myself, 2016 was a crazy year for me. It was a year full of heartache, emotion, happiness and also full of adventure. This year was also you're full of lessons and accomplishments. I will always be able to look back on 2016 as the year that shaped me into the woman I wanted and needed to become. I have learned that if you want something, stop waiting on someone else to get it for you, and don't always require validation from someone. "The best thing a woman can have is her act together". After all, we are who we choose to be. You got to save yourself. Nobody knows what you want, except you, and no one will be as sorry as you if you don't get it, never give up on your dreams.

Close to the New Year, we always hear the saying "New Year, New me" Why is that? And what does that even mean? The past year was a waste? You didn't like who you were the past year? You made a few mistakes? Bad decisions?

Here's the thing... every second. Every day. Every mistake. Every bad decision. Every bad thing that happened to you, changed you. Had some kind of effect on you.

2016 molded me into a passionate, pretty, opinionated, independent, and strong woman. I've experienced a lot, and I'm not finished experiencing bad times, nor good times because this is life and that's what you have to do. I'm not where I need to be, but I think God I'm not where I used to be. You got to let go of the things that you tried to hold onto you for so long that are no longer good for you.

But why change any of that? Why want a "New You" in the New Year? This past year molded you into the person you need to be. Don't change that, most of all don't change who you are..

You are worthy. You are enough.

I'm serious

There are tons of unisex names that are popular: Taylor, Alex, Bailey, etc. There are also numerous names that are used for both sexes, but they’re not seen as “unisex” yet. People are slowly becoming accustomed to the dual use of these names, but for the most part, in their minds they associate certain names with certain sexes. And that leaves those of us with these names in many awkward situations.

I'm an anthropology major, and I love every minute of it. I couldn't tell you why, but I guess there's just something about studying different lifestyles that absolutely fascinates me. But anthropology majors definitely have our weird sides, especially when you go to a school that is filled with mostly Business and Bio majors. But us weirdos definitely have a lot in common, specifically these 16 things.

pale girl

Everyone has insecurities, that's just a fact. You didn't ask to be born this way. You didn't ask to inherit the one trait no one else in your family has. And you definitely didn't ask to be this ghostly white. But as soon as you've learned to live with it for a while (less wrinkles later on in life, right? right???) someone has to ruin it for you. They have to flaunt they're perfectly tanned body from Spring Break and hold their sun-kissed skin against yours. But I've had enough... here are the things that perpetually pale individuals are tired of hearing.
