8 New Ways to Wear Striped Styles this Summer
Southern Curls and Pearls, Champagne and Channel

The stripes trend has always been a summer must with the classic navy and white duo appearing on boat-neck tops, dresses and even pumps. Across runways, celebrity streets and blogs, those classics stripes have taken on a modern and chic update. From metallic stripes to bold black and white, this trend is already catching on quick. I want to give you some chic new ways to show off your stripes along with some of my favorite new striped items you’ll want to wear everywhere.

Chambray and White Romper

This little romper sticks to the neutral tones of off-white and chambray stripes. The V-neck and the adjustable waist will show off your curves while the ruffled bottom and bow on the back maintain a flirty, yet casual, elegance. Plus, the little pop of coral color given by the tassel ties exudes the essence of summer. You can find the exact romper from the picture here, but this romper is a little pricey so I've included look-a-likes here and here.

Black and White Maxi-Romper

Next, the romper-maxi. This new style is starting quite the fashion revolution, combining two fashion faves, the maxi-dress and the romper, all in one! The vertical stripes of the skirt section create the illusion of a slimmer, taller physique, which is greatly appreciated by petite women like myself. I love anything that makes my legs look longer! The draped shoulder straps and ruffles on the bust of the outfit provide a soft contrast to the edgy, split skirt. You can find the exact romper here or a similar style here.

Classic Blue and White with a High-waist Twist

If you want to stick with the classic blue and white, try out these high-waisted dress shorts to take the original pairing to new heights. The front pleat details and long lines create a slimming effect while showing off your legs. Pair with a white or even blue top and some neutral-toned pumps to complete the look! The exact shorts can be found in store at your local Dillard’s location or online at Dillards.com.

Strappy Styles with Stripes

Get strap-happy with this multi-colored maxi that will take you straight to your summer paradise. This fully-lined, ankle-length dress plays with different widths and colors of vertical stripes. The showstopper of this striped dress is the strappy back! The straps are adjustable, and the front features a waist-tie with tassels and a feminine ruffled hemline. You can find the exact style here.

For the "Frill-Seekers"

This frill-top dress will have you wanting to set sail in navy and white horizontal stripes. I actually saw this dress in Bevello a few weeks back and it fits like a glove! The soft jersey material hugs your curves while giving you a breathable and comfortable wear. My favorite part of this dress is the edgy slit over the left leg that opposes the horizontal pattern. Plus, it makes the dress far easier to walk in. I actually splurged and got this one for myself! I absolutely love it. A classic trend on a modern style is always a must. Check it out here!

Go Long!

Don't be afraid to wear some of your long-sleeved striped shirts in the early summer and late fall! They are great transition pieces between seasons and give a playful twist on the classic "t-shirt and shorts" look that most would be wearing. Playing with these contrasting lengths, especially with these invigorating stripes, will give an interesting, edgier twist to your go-to look.

This boatneck tee can found here.

Striped Accesories

I've linked some striped accessories below! Pair any of these with a neutral outfit to add a little pop of pattern, or mix and match these items with other bold colors or patterns. Just click on the photo to get to the website for purchase.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
