A New Type Of Refugee

President Trump may have enforced his own ban, but a new type of refugee is on the way.

Visit Solomon Islands

Have you ever heard of the Solomon Islands? They are shown in the picture above. The islands are located in the south Pacific and are a wonderful travel destination. However, these islands may not be here for long. These along with other islands are slowly sinking into the ocean.

To be more correct, the sea level is actually rising. Since 1870, see levels have risen at least two meters, or approximately six feet. The rate of the sea rising is also rapidly increasing, it is currently rising at 3.4 mm per year. Five of the Solomon Islands that existed in 1947 were completely underwater as of 2014. Other areas directly affected by this rise are those along the coast lines.

As these islands disappear, one other thing will not disappear, the people that live there. In recent years, and certainly in the years to come, the world has been, and will continue to be introduced to a new type of refugee. These refugees are those of climate change.

As the earth gets warmer, sea levels rise. As sea levels rise, less and less land becomes livable. The people living on islands and coastlines will soon need to leave their homes, it will not be an option, no ban will deter them from escaping the death of drowning in their own homes. This migration of people brings about many new challenges to the world. Cultures mixing, language barriers and overcrowding are just a few of the issues that shall rise just as the sea level does. Sadly, because of the existing conditions and norms the govern society, women are disproportionately affected by climate change. Click here to visit the UN’s website explaining how.

Everyone who is in college right now, or has ever been, knows the struggle of pulling in the strings at the last second. It seems impossible, and you have to do a LOT of things in order to assure your future for the next semester.

April Ludgate, historically, is a very annoyed person, and she doesn't hide it. Of all the times that I binged and re-binged "Parks and Rec," her attitude relates more and more to me.

To The Cheerful Person On Their Rainy Days, You Are Valid

The world is not always sunshine and rainbows, and you do not have to be, either.

Ask friends of mine to name a quality about me, and one a lot them will point out the fact that I am almost always smiling. I like to laugh and smile -- not to quote Buddy the Elf in April, but smiling is my favorite! It is probably my favorite go-to expression. However, what a lot of people do not see is that I have my down days. I have days when smiling and laughing is a real struggle, or when I have so much on my plate that going out of my way to behappy takes more effort than I have stored in me. Be it a symptom of college and growing up or a facet of life, I cannot always be content.
