When it comes to back-to-school shopping, this particular year is different for me than in year’s past. This is because trends that have faded out of style in the past years are now making a comeback. Prints like tye-dye, plaid and even the denim skirt are now what’s trending among high school and college students. Instead of having to completely choose new pieces for the school year, you can now add in some recycled pieces and then chose fun new trends to really make them pop.

By far my favorite trend that has come back in style is the denim skirt. My mother is probably rolling her eyes at this, but I think it’s the perfect mix of both casual and cool. Tuck it into a casual white t-shirt and boom, you have an outfit that can easily transition from day to night. Also, something a little wilder to try would be a button down denim shirt tucked into it. Let me be the first to say I have frowned upon denim on denim for years. However, I have recently been seeing bloggers and stylists who make it irresistible to try.

My favorite trick for making these recycled pieces looking brand new again is accessories. I am a firm believer in the idea that you can never have enough jewelry. I just refuse to believe it. Although this trend has been out for a while now, I love the tassel necklaces and bracelets. I’m also pretty sure I have one in every color. (I feel like I should embarrassed to admit that, but I’m not). These type of accessories dress even the most casual outfit up!

Another trend I’m loving that has been around for a few years is the gladiator sandals. This year, however, I feel like the lace up sandals became huge. Adding these to your wardrobe for school can make it seem like you have endless options for outfits.

I think the main thing to remember when back to school shopping this year is to first of all, check your closet. What old clothes have you thrown to the back of your closet that are now popular? After that, make sure to buy versatile pieces that can easily transition from walking to class to a dinner with friends. The most important thing I would say is to find things that make you feel most comfortable and your very best. At the end of the day, that is what will make you stand out the most.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
