To My Mississippi State Family Starting School In A Few Short Weeks - Don't Blink

As an alumnus who has been finished for almost two full years, I encourage you to cherish every moment because it goes by quickly.

To My Mississippi State Family Starting School In A Few Short Weeks - Don't Blink
Kady Cooley

I cannot believe that it has been almost two full years since I have graduated from the beautiful school that resides in Stark Vegas. When I transferred there in August of 2014 I had no idea at how quickly time would actually fly by. I blinked and two years later I am married, moved to a new town, and am beginning new adventures.

This will be you in no time, but for now, don't blink because when you do it'll be over.

Mississippi State has made such a massive impact on my life, and if you let it you will be able to say the same.

I have free shirts from almost every event. Don't let your family tell you that you have too many- you can never have too many. This is until you get married and your husband thinks you need to downsize.

Campus holds a multitude of events ranging from the beginning of the year all the way to the end. Take advantage of them all. Sure, it sounds like chaos walking through the school's organizations fair during the first week of school, but it is also where you will find and meet so many different people who may have the same interests as you. Plus, they give out free stuff. Who doesn't like free food, shirts, hats, and more?

I encourage you to stand in line for two hours before a football game and make sure you get a front row spot. I will never forget watching us become number one in the nation as Dak Prescott led us to beat Auburn my first year at State. I was sitting front row with some of the most amazing people I met at school.

Join a club or an organization.

I personally joined the BSU and spent two years growing with the sweetest people ever. I was always encouraged and had someone to talk to constantly. If I was bored all I had to do was call up some of my girls and we'd get together. We had weekly bible studies and more- life was never dull. If that's not for you there are more options than you can imagine- don't miss out.

School can be stressful and you shouldn't struggle alone. I met some of the best people during my time at State and no matter where life has brought us now I don't regret any of my time spent with them.

Whether you're a Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, or Senior- hey, maybe you're a fifth year Senior or Grad student, there is so much to offer you. Don't allow yourself to get in the way of making some of the best memories of your life. Time flies by and it's important to understand that and take everything in while you can, but don't forget about academics.

Sit up front, pay attention, and get involved in class. Make friends with the ones who struggle to connect with others. Academics is what brought most of us to state and we must not neglect that, but we can continue to make memories through that.

So, to my bulldogs who are getting ready for a new year, Hail State and make this the best year yet!!!

The 5 Painfully True Stages Of Camping Out At The Library

For those long nights that turn into mornings when the struggle is real.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

28 Daily Thoughts of College Students

"I want to thank Google, Wikipedia, and whoever else invented copy and paste. Thank you."

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

As this semester wraps up, students can’t help but be stressed about finals. After all, our GPAs depends on these grades! What student isn’t worrying about their finals right now? It’s “goodbye social life, hello library” time from now until the end of finals week.
