New Orleans Summer Bucket List

What's summer without a bucket list?

New Orleans is my favorite place in the world. One of the many reasons I love my hometown is because of the culture. No other city I have travelled to has an atmosphere quite like New Orleans. Between the music, the food, the beautiful parks, and the nightlife, there is never a boring day in the Big Easy. Here’s how to make your summer in New Orleans the best that it can be.

Saints Pre-season Game:

If you want to see how much New Orleanians love their Saints, you need to attend a football game. Seriously, we are all die hard fans. Be prepared for a lot of screaming and yelling. WHO DAT!

Get A Snowball (not a snow cone):

More specifically, go to Hansen’s. They usually have a line that wraps around the corner, but it’s definitely worth the wait! If you’re feeling adventurous, try a stuffed snowball. You won’t be disappointed!

Go To a Museum:

If you’re a history buff, take a day trip to the World War II museum or the 1850 House. If you like art, visit the New Orleans Museum of Art or the Ogden Museum of Southern Art. If you’re looking for something more relaxed and family-oriented, visit the Louisiana Children’s Museum or the Audubon Nature Institute! My personal favorite is Audubon Zoo, but be sure to check out the Audubon Butterfly Garden and Insectarium and the Audubon Aquarium of the Americas. There are things for all ages to explore at NOLA museums!

Bayou Boogaloo:

Are you doing anything during the weekend of May 20-22? If so, be sure to clear your schedule! You don’t want to miss this music experience and performances from Irma Thomas, Lowrider Band, The Wailers and many more! There will be paddleboat competitions, different contests, and much more!

Zephyr’s Game:

For all you baseball lovers out there, this ones for you! Every Friday night, you will be able to view a firework show. There are also nights that a crawfish boil will be going on! Be sure to get your seafood fix while checking out this minor league baseball team.

Take a Movie Tour:

New Orleans is known for many popular movies and shows, like NCIS: New Orleans and American Horror Story. Delve into the Hollywood South and discover where your favorite actors or actresses actually filmed!

White Linen Night:

Take a walk down the streets of New Orleans and view the art galleries along with some live music! Don’t forget to wear white!

Essence Festival:

Although this is more on the expensive side, it is worth enjoying a weekend of music with this festival held in the Superdome. See your favorite artists at this year’s festival, including Kendrick Lamar, Dej Loaf, Ciara, Jeremih, Estelle, Mariah Carey and many more!

Red Dress Run:

This one’s for people 21 and over. Put on your best red dress (guys, too!) and support running clubs! It is a perfect opportunity to explore the city with all your friends and family!

Café Du Monde:

Two words: beignets and coffee. Nothing beats that! Nola is known for having the best food but in summer the food gets better. To see what I mean, go check out Greek Fest, Oyster Fest, and Sushi Fest!

Sorority
Rebekah Lee

I remember my freshman year oh so well. I remember feeling terrified the night before orientation. The one thing that I dreaded the most was not the new people, the new environment, or even the academic pressure. I was dreading having to talk to sorority girls about Recruitment. I remember cutting off and avoiding any Rho Gamma/Panhellenic Officer that came my way during First Week. I looked at them like they had asked me to cut my arm off whenever they asked me if I wanted to rush. To be honest, I did not even know what rush was, but I knew that I did NOT want to be a part of it. To me, it was dumb. It was a waste of money. It was a waste of my time.

And guess what? I did not rush my freshman year. I spent the first half of my freshman year isolating myself from everyone on campus. I spent all of my time in the library, and then (since I was a commuter) went back home once my work was finished.

Tiana would no doubt be disappointed in the food our cafeteria has to offer.

And hopefully she would cook for everyone in her dorm.

She definitley would not take any 8:00 am classes because she would be up late baking and cleaning up the communal kitchen that are available in every dorm.
