The Old Fashioned

You know those clever top 40 mashups that pop up online now and then?

The Old Fashioned are the MASTERS of these mashups.

They started off as a Los Angeles bar band, playing ~you guessed it~ mashup covers of top 40 songs. That is until Martin Johnson of Boys Like Girls heard them and asked them to join his band on their 10 year anniversary tour.

Despite having been virtually unknown before the Boys Like Girls tour, The Old Fashioned still managed to put on a fantastic and energetic show every night the entire tour. They did an excellent job keeping everyone entertained and excited before BLG took the stage by performing mashups of different songs from the 2006 emo-rock phase, along with classic 90's hits from the likes of the Backstreet Boys, *NSYNC and Britney Spears.

On top of their amazing mashups, The Old Fashioned also performed original songs that were just as amazing as their mashups. However, because they knew that many people in the crowds would have no idea who they were, the made sure to only play a few original songs so audiences didn't get bored.

That alone sets the bar for the type of musicians these guys are. While they were excited to get exposure, they didn't shove themselves on to Boys Like Girls fans. They played enough to get a feel of if you would like their original music or not, and they made sure to keep you entertained and guessing what song they'd mashup next.

Having seen The Old Fashioned live at the Filmore in Philadelphia, I can say that these guys should definitely stay on your radar. They're super talented and have a fantastic stage presence that many bands lack nowadays. They understand audiences and know how to read them, so they kill it every single show.

I can't wait to hear more about these guys, and I hope I made you interested in them, too.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
