When the word "fasting" comes to mind people generally think of holidays. In a recent article published on Mercury News, workers at San Francisco company Nootrobox express how fasting has changed their work habits for the better. The work at the start up company of Nootrobox begin their fast on Monday night and didn't end until Tuesday giving the fast a full 36 hour time frame. They say this fast is not by any means an effort to save money, but a way to fuel their brains.
"We're actually super productive on Tuesdays," co-founder and CEO Geoffrey Woo said. "It's hard at first, but we literally adopted it as part of the company culture."
"By the end of the day I just have way more energy," said Katie Fritts, founder of San Francisco-based Underclub, an underwear subscription service.
They are doing this in hopes to enhance their own personal brain chemistry and as a whole be able to dream up the "next big millionaire idea."
"Known by insiders as "biohacking," the push for cognitive self-improvement is gaining momentum in the Silicon Valley tech world, where workers face constant pressure to innovate and produce at the highest levels."
With the constant pressure rising the team hopes that having this infused into the culture at work will soon pay off and provide the team with an idea that is larger than life.
Although fasting is not for everyone, this new method is what is keeping the culture of Nootrobox alive. The company has created a variety of supplements that they believe have set them up for a foundation for the fasting period.
"The pills for sale on the Nootrobox website are of a milder variety. They contain vitamins, minerals and amino acids such as magnesium, theanine and melatonin, all of which co-founder Woo says the Food and Drug Administration sees as safe dietary supplements."
The supplements provide people with the option to stimulate brain health without taking away nutrients the body needs. This company definitely provides a new view on the world of fasting and what it can provide.
Could this become a trend? I guess we have to fast ourselves, and find out.
