New Jersey: We Pump Our Fists Not Our Gas

The concept of a diner

We eat here at least three to four times a week and you can find us here at any time of the day …literally. The food you eat at these diners is probably some of the best food you will ever taste in your entire life. You're welcome.

Dunkin Donuts

There is NO such thing as Starbucks. In the wise words of Dunkin Donuts, “Friends don't let friends drink Starbucks." ENOUGH said.

The concept of a deli

Just like diners, Deli's are planted all up and down New Jersey and it's where we buy all of our school lunches, where we buy our bagels by the dozen, and our cream cheese by the pound.

The love for our pizza

The words “This is the best pizza I've ever tasted" should never come out of your mouth unless you've tasted our pizza. Also, plain pizza is in reference to cheese.

The sweatpants and Uggs outfit

Nowhere else in the country will you find this outfit worn by so many people on a daily basis.

The mall

To anyone else, the mall isn't really that important. To us over here, it's where we grew up. It's where our first boyfriends took us to the movies and held our hands for the first time. It's where we had our first kisses. It's where we bought all of our Hollister and Abercrombie t-shirts that we thought we were so cool wearing in the 6th grade. It's really our way of life.

Monogram necklaces

It's a trendy look and goes well with every outfit no matter what. It's also a statement piece that reads, “I'm from Jersey."

Our state name

It's just Jersey. That's it.

The cold

No one understands the concept of cold until they have been to Jersey.

The shore

During the summer, we don't go to the beach, we go to the shore.

When someone asks for a “diet" while at a restaurant

We're referring to a diet coke.

Your lack of gas pumping skills

We get very confused on how to pump our own gas and we make complete fools of ourselves every time we evidently stop somewhere that doesn't have a gas station attendant.

Breakfast sandwiches

Taylor Ham, bacon, egg and cheese, salt, pepper, ketchup on a roll, please!

Six Flags

You have been here more times than you can even count.

North, Central, and South Jersey

You know that these are like three different continents and three different worlds. We never associate ourselves with any other part of Jersey than with our fellow northerners.

“The City"

When we say we're going to the city, we mean New York City.

When someone asks you where you live

A totally acceptable answer to give someone would be “Off of exit 163."

Our homes

Jersey is home to some of the biggest mansions you will ever see in your entire life.

Area codes

We refer to being back home by using our area codes to define our towns. “Back in the 201" as I always say!

Wawa

No one will ever understand the true glory of Wawa. The BEST rest stop you will ever visit.

Speed limits

When you see "55," it really means you are going to go 75 on the parkway.

Stop lights

Green means go, yellow means go even faster, and red means ahh crap, I guess I'll stop.

You can definitely say one thing, we will always be reppin' our New Jersey Pride.

Going to the gym and working out on a daily basis (with breaks once in awhile) has been a great way for me to feel good about myself. It is 100% more than just looking good. Especially after starting college and having the stress and anxiety of tests, assignments, and just figuring out my future, the gym at my school has definitely been a place of relief for me and I have numerous reasons of why everyone should push themselves to get to the gym when they can.

It is a time where one day you can feel like you are on top of the world and then the next day you are 500 feet below the ground surface.

When I was learning how to talk, I was taught both Portuguese and English at the same time. In elementary school, I started taking mandatory Spanish classes, which I did well in because of my knowledge of Portuguese. Then in high school, on top of taking Spanish, I also started taking French. Now, in college, already fluent in English and Portuguese, I'm in the process of becoming fluent in Spanish, and I have a standard high school level understanding of French.
