New Horror Films To Watch For Halloween 2016

As Halloween is fast approaching so are new scary movies. Some people like them, including myself, while others not so much, and that's okay. 2016 has been a pretty good year for horror movies, the past few years were alright but I think this year something magical happened in the film industry somehow because lately there have been great horror movies produced. Some might not agree but movies such as Lights Out, Don't Breathe, and The Conjuring 2 received reviews in the 80's and 90's range from Rotten Tomatoes which if you don't know is a highly respected film critic website. Since this article will be up this Monday on Halloween, here are some horror films and thrillers for non-horror movies goers to watch.

1. Lights Out

I won't torture you all and put an image or gif for this one because this is one of the scariest movies on my list. The setting takes place with a family of three: a mother, oldest daughter, and young boy who experience the terrifying acts of Diana. Diana was someone that the mother used to be friends with until she died. Now her "spirit" haunts the family because she feeds off of sadness. This film is interesting because the theme is centered around a certain mental illness that I won't give away. You'll just have to watch for yourselves!

2. Don't Breathe

This film is also different because instead of ghosts, witches, or demons, it's a blind war veteran that we're dealing with. Three teenagers who want to escape the decaying of Detroit find out that the veteran has loads of money. They break into his house attempting to steal the money but their plan goes horribly wrong.

3. The Conjuring 2

If you've see the first Conjuring film then you'll probably want to watch this one even though the two films don't exactly relate. What's scary about this is that it's based on a true story with real evidence later in the film.

4. The Witch

Centered around the time of the Salem Witch Trials, a family gets shunned from their village and settles near the forest. Strange things start to happen resulting in the family to turn on each other by the powers of The Witch.

5. The Invitation

For those who don't like super scary, The Invitation is promising. This psychological thriller is about a man and his new girlfriend that get invited to his ex-wife's house for a dinner party. Old friends catch up but things go haywire. Again, nothing super scary at all.

6. The Shallows

If you're into more beach movies that are scary such as Jaws then you'll definitely enjoy this film. This movie is sort of like Jaws but it centers around only a few characters, however they will not go down without a fight... with a shark. It might make you think twice about going to the beach for a while.

There are many other good horror films out there but these are all from this year that would make a great Halloween movie night!

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

For those long nights that turn into mornings when the struggle is real.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
