Alright, I need everyone to take a seat I've got a wild one for you this week. A video of a new Harry Potter video game got leaked out, and it honestly looks incredible.
Word on the Harry Potter video game street is, Avalanche Software started developing a new game a few years back. People assumed when they were bought out by Warner Bros, there would be some sort of announcement regarding the project. But just like my mom often says about my writing career, nothing ever came from it.
Yet, here we are with this amazing footage of a brand new game. And look, I have to say this could very well be fake and not actual footage, but more likely than not this is indeed the experience we've been waiting for.
We know so far that this game allows you to customize your own character, a fifth-year student at Hogwarts with a knack for magic. Your character also has a gift to track pieces of this "ancient power" which will be more prominent in the story. Though, the most exciting part is you will be able to explore all over the school in an open world environment, as you become one of eight different types of wizards. In other words, it's the closest you'll ever get to actually going to Hogwarts.
In the past there have been plenty of great Harry Potter games, but I don't think any of them will be able to compare to the caliber of what we just saw. The closest I'd say would be The Order of the Phoenix video game that came out back in 2007. My middle school self used to spend hours upon hours exploring all that I could on Hogwarts grounds, but the problem always was I was constrained by the fact that I knew the story.
If you had seen the movie, or read the book, you knew exactly what would happen. If this new game is actually what it claims to be, you can completely do your own thing. Choose your house, choose whether to be good or bad it's all up to you, which is literally every Harry Potter fans fantasy. Let's be real, Harry is out of his prime, it's about time that we got to play as our own person.
Not to get too deep on my readers, but I don't think I'm alone in saying that Harry Potter was a huge part of a majority of people's childhood. I think it's fair to say most kids my age were "pot heads" as in Harry Potter fanatics, not the drug. I used to imagine what it would be like to get an acceptance letter to Hogwarts and live out my own story in this amazing world created by JK Rowling. It's really cool to see that game developers are finally letting me live out a childhood dream that others have failed to achieve since 1997 when the first book came out.
Video game fans all over will join me in saying that the best types of games are the ones that immerse you in the story and allow you to really play your own role. Believe me when I say, being able to experience that immersion in an iconic world like Harry Potter is going to make this one of the most iconic games in recent memory.
