For horror film fanatics, October is undoubtedly one of the best years. There's a guarantee of at least one new scary movie hitting theaters and the addition of favorite classics to Netflix and Hulu. Last week the latest installment of the "Halloween" franchise hit theaters and I'm here to tell you why it should become your new favorite horror flick.
First and foremost, the original scream queen Jamie Lee Curtis did not disappoint.
1.The original scream queen Jamie Lee Curtis did not disappoint.
GiphyWith the same long hair, she hasn't donned since the original she was even tougher than she was fighting off Michael Myers in the 1978 film. Her character is determined to be more than just the victim. It's her paranoia, fear and preparation for Michael's return that keeps everyone on the edge of their seat.
2. It doesn't simply mirror the original, but still has nods to the first.
GiphyYou will find yourself watching scenes of a character looking out the window and clothes lines flapping in the wind eerily familiar. It takes you back to the original with some less than subtle references and does justice to the story that has been too many times been remade into something ridiculous.
3. It wins out amongst the other remakes and lives up to the hype.
GiphyMaking any version of "Halloween" without the Laurie Strode character is doing it wrong. Watching this feels like your back in the original waiting anxiously for Michael Myers to creep up on unsuspecting babysitters. Despite being made 40 years later, it keeps thing simple and focuses more on the suspense than any added special effects.
4. The iconic music is back and that much scarier.
GiphyIt would not be "Halloween" if there wasn't the sound of John Carpenter's original theme song filling the silence, but this time they added a little bit more to it that only adds to the tension. The gradually increasing volume of the song at peak terrifying moments is exactly what the audience hoped for.
5. The ending is so much better than before.
GiphyWithout giving anything away, the ending will not leave anything to be desired. It has elements resembling that of the first but decides not to end with the overdone trope of killer chasing a helpless young girl. The whole Strode family are shown as much more than the helpless women of most horror flicks that run right into the waiting killer's arms.
With Halloween just days away, there's no better excuse to go see this scary movie. Make plans with friends or better yet go alone for the ultimate scary experience. Watching this film will add a whole new element to when you're handing out candy on the 31st.
