9 Life Lessons I Learned from Watching ‘New Girl’

We all have that one show we can't get enough of. For me, that show is 'New Girl'. After recently finishing the complete series for the third time, I figured it was time to write a blog over the things I've learned from the amazing characters. To the characters who I love: Jess, CeCe, Nick, Schmidt, Winston and Coach, this blog is for you.

1. Everyone has their own weird quirks.

We all have those weird things we do, even if we don't notice how strange they actually are. Our quirks are what keep us all unique from one another. Our quirks keep things interesting. If you think you're weird, you probably are. But I promise you, the person sitting next to you is equally as weird.

2. Change is a good thing.

If it wasn't for change the show would never exist. If Jess didn't break up with her cheating boyfriend she would have never found her roommates off of craigslist. She would have never made the best change in her life. Remember although change can be scary, it also can be the biggest blessing happening right before your eyes.

3. Alone time is essential.

Sometimes all we need is some time alone, cuddled up with all possible pillows and blankets possible, in our comfy clothes and watching one of the greatest shows in existence, 'New Girl'. Well… maybe that's just me. But alone time is important, however you like to spend it. Just make sure you don't forget to give yourself some time for your favorite things, with no one else but yourself.

4. Your best is enough.

If you can look at yourself in the mirror knowing you gave your all into what was asked of you, you have nothing to be worried about. If you can honestly say you tried your best, own it. Let everyone know who you are and what you are capable of.

5. Be yourself.

This lesson is relevant in every episode of the show 'New Girl'. If this show has taught me anything at all, it would be to embrace myself for all that I am and to love myself while doing it. If I love being around myself, other people will too. It's important to be your true self around your everyday acquaintances, otherwise, you could lose yourself.

6. Don't underestimate yourself.

You know yourself better than anyone else does, never slow yourself down in life. You are more capable than you give yourself credit, in all aspects of life. Don't forget who you are or what you can do.

7. Don't give up on your dreams.

There is no time but the present. Although it is easy to get caught up in the day-to-day routine, never forget where you are trying to end up. After all, Winston never gave up his dream of being a police officer, did he?

8. Enjoy your success.

Life is all about victories, big and small. It's important to celebrate when you do something right or succeed at something you were questioning about. Next time you impress yourself, go ahead. Treat yourself, go out and buy yourself a little something special.

9. Your friends are also your family.

When you realize who your life-long friends are, cherish the moments you have with them. Your friends are also your family when you're officially too old to live at home. There comes a point in your life where you're around friends more than your family. If you're lucky, you might be able to say you have two sets of family: your blood relatives and your friends.

Peace and Blessings,

Kayla Jean Brady

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.

girl with a hat

This is for the girls who have dealt with an emotionally, mentally, physically or verbally abusive father.

The ones who have grown up with a false lens of what love is and how relationships should be. The ones who have cried themselves to sleep wondering why he hurts you and your family so much. This is for all the girls who fall in love with broken boys that carry baggage bigger than their own, thinking it's their job to heal them because you watched your mother do the same.

Blair Waldorf Quote
"DESTINY IS FOR LOSERS. IT'S JUST A STUPID EXCUSE TO WAIT FOR THINGS TO HAPPEN INSTEAD OF MAKING THEM HAPPEN." - BLAIR WALDORF.

The world stopped in 2012 when our beloved show "Gossip Girl" ended. For six straight years, we would all tune in every Monday at 9:00 p.m. to see Upper Eastside royalty in the form of a Burberry headband clad Blair Waldorf. Blair was the big sister that we all loved to hate. How could we ever forget the epic showdowns between her and her frenemy Serena Van Der Woodsen? Or the time she banished Georgina Sparks to a Christian summer camp? How about that time when she and her girls took down Bart Bass? Blair is life. She's taught us how to dress, how to be ambitious, and most importantly, how to throw the perfect shade.

Because we made it, and because high school seniors deserve to know what they're getting themselves into

too tired to care

We've all been there. From move-in day to the first finals week in college, your first term is an adventure from start to finish. In honor of college decisions coming out recently, I want to recap some of the most common experiences college freshmen experience.

1. The awkward hellos on move-in day.

You're moving your stuff onto your floor, and you will encounter people you don't know yet in the hallway. They live on your floor, so you'll awkwardly smile and maybe introduce yourself. As you walk away, you will wonder if they will ever speak to you again, but don't worry, there's a good chance that you will make some great friends on your floor!
