5 Things I Learned From New Girl About Friendships
carianns.wordpress.com

For those of you who have seen the show "New Girl", you know there is a lot to learn from the show about what a true friend is. Myself, being border-line obsessed with the show, highly recommend this show to anyone. Although, the creator of the show, Elizabeth Meriwether, does do a wonderful job of highlighting the true struggles of young adults in today's society which makes it an extremely relatable show in all aspects. That being said, between Schmidt, Nick, Winston, Jess, and Cece, I learned a lot about what true friendship consists of.

1. There is no hiding who we really are.

Regardless of who you are, we've all got a bit of a crazy side. Eventually, no matter how much time you spend or don't spend with one person, it's bound to come present itself at some point. When it does, embrace it, that's apart of you that people are just going to have to get used to and the thing is, real friends aren't going to care, they're going to love that part of you just the same as the rest of you

2. BUT...that's okay because why else would you be friends?

Truth is, why else would you be friends with the people you're friends with if you didn't love them for all of who they are? Part of the reason we become friends in the first place is because we find part of who we are inside of them and we accept and love their flaws because it makes them that much more special. Regardless the amount craziness we endure with them, we love them anyways because life would be too boring otherwise.

3. They're honest with us whether we want to hear it or not.

In our lifetime, whether or not we want to admit it, there are things we never admit to ourselves, things we need to hear. True friends are going to do this for us. Someone who's going to tell you how it is because they want what's best for you. Not just petty things like outfit decisions but real things like when we mess up and need to apologize but our pride gets in the way. Obviously there are lines that can be easily crossed with telling it how it is but in reality we all need someone besides our parents to keep us in line.

4. They're always looking out for us.

Whether it's taking us out after we've been dumped, telling us when we're screwing up, or giving us a good pep talk when we need it- friends have always got out backs. We want the best for each others and we won't settle for anything less for our friends. Friendship is a relationship with an endless amount of unconditional love, it is important to remember what this truly is!

5. They will do anything for you.

Let's be honest, friendships can get pretty weird. We've all got lines that we swear we'll never cross yet from time to time we find ourselves creating new boundaries almost all of the time because of our friends. No matter how weird the situation, most of the time friends will do anything for you.

In reality, friends are what hold us together, they're what keeps our lives interesting. After watching each and every episode of "New Girl", I realized the friendship between each of the characters is unconditional, strong, and SO relatable. The things they do for one another may seem over the top and strange at times but let's face it I think we've all done some weird things for our friends that will make for some great stories one day.

Tiana would no doubt be disappointed in the food our cafeteria has to offer.

And hopefully she would cook for everyone in her dorm.

She definitley would not take any 8:00 am classes because she would be up late baking and cleaning up the communal kitchen that are available in every dorm.

The dynamics of any friend group are usually determined by the personalities which make it up. Chances are, while personalities may overlap, each person in your friend group holds his or her own place. It is the differences which bring the groups together and keep them functioning. No matter how functionally dysfunctional your friend group may be, if you're anything like me, you feel absolutely blessed to have found such a wonderful group of humans to call "your people."
