This year not only marks the 20th anniversary of Florida's New Found Glory, but they're also coming back on April 28 with Makes Me Sick, their ninth album and first since October 2014's Resurrection. To hype it up, they're doing their best to make you hype with the "Happy Being Miserable" single.
Watch the music video above—with caution—as the dudes start out by reenacting a Stand By Me campfire scene, right down to Jordan Pundik (lead singer) being called Gordo. It's the part in the film that gives way to the tale of the pie eating contest turned vomitocalypse, and it very much plays out that way. At least until 2:45, when all the puke provides a more aesthetically pleasing finale, a blacklight jam sesh. Musically, it sounds like original member, Steve Klein (rhythm guitarist who parted ways with the band in 2013, due to "personal differences"), is still in the band because the guitar sounds so much better this time than in Resurrection.
This forthcoming album was one of AP's Most Anticipated for 2017. Here's what guitarist Chad Gilbert had to say about the album:
"Lyrically, this album looks at our culture and where we’re at—even in ourselves. We live in a place where people, ourselves included, spend so much time pointing the finger at others. They point at everything else they want to fix with the world, but they never really point at themselves. This album is more vulnerable, but it’s a different kind of vulnerability and honesty than our other records. Musically, we’ve found this sort of freedom because of our fans and their loyalty to us over the years. We use this juxtaposition between our most accountable lyrics and our most fun music."
NFG have been sharing little images on social media alongside what are almost certainly song titles for Makes Me Sick. The track-list is:
1. "Your Jokes Aren't Funny"
2. "Party on Apocalypse"
3. "Call Me Anti-Social"
4. "Happy Being Miserable"
5. "The Sound of Two Voices"
6. "Blurred Vision"
7. "Say It Don't Spray It"
8. "Barbed Wire"
9. "Short & Sweet"
10. "The Cheapest Thrill"
Overall, I'm hyped with New Found Glory's Makes Me Sick, and I have no worries because this band never lets their fans down and they never change!
