Now that 2018 has begun, and Disney is releasing one of its best line-ups in years. Here are the ten movies Disney fans get to look forward to seeing in 2018.
1. "Black Panther" – February 16th
This Marvel movie leading to Marvel's "Avengers Infinity War" is going to be a fascinating film. Black Panther did make an appearance in "Captain America: Civil War" and if you haven't seen that movie yet, go on Netflix and watch it before going to see "Black Panther". The film features a cast that is mainly African American and the album is being produced by Kendrick Lamar. This film also features big names, such as Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, and Lupota Nyoug'o.
2. "A Wrinkle in Time" – March 9th
Based on the book written by Madeleine L'Engle, the star-studded cast features Oprah Winfrey, Mindy Kaling, Chris Pine, and Reese Witherspoon. The story as about young girl, Meg Murray, whose father disappears and is led by three guides in this diverse dimension.
3. "Avengers: Infinity War" – May 4th
Yes, this is the movie I've been waiting years for. Even though there are rumors that Marvel will not bring back Thor or Captain America after this movie, it practically features every big name superhero in the Marvel Universe. ALSO, THE GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY ARE GOING TO MEET THE AVENGERS. This highly anticipated film will be coming out in May, but I just can't wait to see Tom Holland as Spider-Man, again.
4. "Solo: A Star Wars Story" – May 25th
In this film, we will get to know a bit more about a young Han Solo and how he met Chewbacca and Lando Calrissian. The best part of this film, in my opinion is that Donald Glover, also known as Childish Gambino, will be playing the role of Lando. Emilia Clarke from "Game of Thrones" and Woody Harrelson are also starring in this film. This will be an interesting and important part of the Star Wars saga.
5. "The Incredibles 2" – June 15th
Finally!!! It took you long enough Pixar. Back in 2004, Pixar released this fan favorite and left the audience in suspense, as the Underminer comes out of the ground and tries to destroy the city. Fourteen years later, Pixar pretty much leaves us in the same spot, as based on teasers, Mr. Incredible just found out that Jack-Jack has powers. I'm definitely excited for this film, but, I'm a bit salty because "Incredibles 2" pushed back "Toy Story 4" another year.
6. "Ant-Man and the Wasp" – July 6th
I love Paul Rudd, especially as Ant-Man. One of the most underrated heroes in Marvel's repertoire is getting a sequel and this time, Scott Lang is getting a side-kick. Besides the fact that it's a Paul Rudd superhero movie, it is the first movie after "Infinity War". So, for all the nerds out there, myself included, some lingering questions could be answered in this film.
7. "Christopher Robin" – August 3rd
One of the first character's I've ever taken a picture with at a Disney park was Winnie the Pooh. This film is based on Christopher Robin as an adult. He has lost all of his creativity and receives help from some of his friends in the Hundred Acre Wood. Definitely an interesting concept created by Disney.
8. "The Nutcracker and the Four Realms" – November 2nd
This is a very strange and dark tale based on concepts from the Nutcracker ballet. The film will be narrated by Morgan Freeman, the best voice in the business. The vibe of the movie is Tim Burton-esque and reminds me a lot of the newer "Alice in Wonderland" movies.
9. "Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-it Ralph" – November 21st
"I'm gonna wreck it!" After five years of waiting John C. Reilly is back as Wreck-It Ralph and it seems Ralph and Vanellope von Sweet are getting an upgrade. It will be interesting to see the transition of Ralph going from video games to internet games and apps.
10. "Mary Poppins Returns" – December 25th
Disney is just amazing at casting. Emily Blunt is perfect as Mary Poppins in her return to the big screen. This film is definitely a Christmas delight which will feature Lin-Manuel Miranda, creator of Hamilton, as well as Meryl Streep. The music for this film will be absolutely splendid with Miranda on the team. Make sure to see this supercalifragilisticexpialidocious movie.
Bonus. "Deadpool 2" – May 18th
Now that Disney owns 21st Century Fox, they will be releasing "Deadpool" as their own film. I was nervous that they would make the movie PG-13, but the team at Disney decided to keep the film as an R and push up the release date. Thank you, Disney! Now I can get my explicit superhero film even earlier!
