Easter is a special time of year, especially if you are religious. Christians in particular are very attached to the holiday, as it is a time for them to remember the death of Jesus Christ and to celebrate His life. Regardless of whether one is religious or not, Easter can still represent an important time of year. It's a time for renewing life.
Most people say that New Year's is the holiday of new beginnings, of starting over, and I certainly agree with them. But, I think Easter also has value as a holiday of new life, in part because of its religious overtones, but also because it takes place in springtime, when life is literally being renewed after winter. I would think of Easter as a chance to take all those New Year's resolutions that probably haven't gone anywhere and start again, or just evaluate your life for things you may want to change.
For members of the LDS church, Easter is a celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. It's the holiday for remembering His sacrifice for the world, and His eventual triumph over that suffering. Now, whether you believe all that or not, I think Easter is a chance for everyone to do the same thing. I take Easter as a chance to look at my life, good things and bad, and decide what I'm ready to let go of and what things I want to change.
For college students, Easter comes at a time in the school year that can be very difficult. With only one month left in the semester, homework and classes become more and more stressful. I think this is all the more reason for all of us to take Easter as a chance to evaluate our lives and try to renew our energy for the end of the semester. I know that sounds cheesy and maybe even slightly ridiculous, but the point stands. However you choose to celebrate Easter, or even if you don't celebrate it at all, you should still consider taking the time to refresh yourself. For all you students out there, try to finish the school year out on a high note.
And happy Easter everyone.
