As of January 28, 2016 Barbie has officially entered the 21st Century.
If you can find one little girl that never had a Barbie doll or had never seen a commercial for one, then you have found a rarity. The first Barbie came on the scene in 1959. Thin, blonde hair and blue eyes was considered the platform of perfection during that time. It wasn't until the black power movement when they decided to create a black Barbie because of the changing times in society.
It is finally airtime, in real time and that means that the symbol of Barbie has changed. Too bad for all those folks that altered their body to look more like this one kind of doll. The New Fashionista Barbie line of dolls that Mattel will be releasing this spring is going to change everything.
Most people know how important it is for children to have a role model and toys that look like them. I only wish that we all could have had this doll when we were younger. This new line of "Slay" dolls, which is what most people will probably start to call them, are what women look like. Some are short or curvy, and some are darker in skin tone or have blue hair. The example of what a woman is are displayed only with this new line of dolls. If you look closely, then you can see that some have different shaped noses, cheeks and flat feet. Contrary to popular belief some woman were not born with an arch in their feet.
According to the press release for Barbie, "Barbie has always given girls choices – from her 180 careers, to inspirational roles, to her countless fashions and accessories."
The new Barbie also mimics a lot of the fashion trends that you can find women rocking in 2016. The colorful hair, the color block dress and even pink snake skin. That one was a little too real. You can expect to see seven skin tones, 22 eye colors, 24 hairstyles. We can only assume that there will be more of these different features to come in the future.
The internet is blowing up with this news. The company's Twitter has received numerous tweets of positivity. Celebrities have even reposted pictures and shown their excitement over the new Fashionista's.
The best part is that the dolls don't cost that much as we may think. With order placings beginning already, the dolls only run about $10. Are you excited about these new Fashionista Barbie dolls as I am?
Do you think that evolving the Barbie will change things about how little girls look at themselves?
