1. Grieves
One of my favorite artists of all time, Benjamin Laub is known by his stage name "Grieves." Check out his latest album (and my favorite) Running Wild. His rap is so unique in style, and he has certainly coined his own flare. It does not even compare with stereotypical rap. The flows are seamless, the beats are rollercoasters of steady riding, smooth lifts, and sharp drops. His voice is musical gravy. His lyrics are intoxicating. He touches on the listener's emotions of pain, love, and the curation of both. Like Post Malone, Grieves brings a new dimension to the hip-hop genre.
2. Prof
Close to Grieves’ style, this Minneapolis based artist throws down some seriously sick tracks. His newest album Pookie Baby features funky rhymes like Time Bomb, laid back lyrics in Designated Hitter, and the classic ode to one’s roots in Minneapolis. His voice and his lyrics mirror Post Malone in that they are both unapologetic.
3. Jack Garratt
Resonating with the more dramatic side of Post’s style, Jack Garratt throws out some R&B ballads like no other. His hits Worry and Falling are two soulful sessions with a little bit of electronic backbeat to keep a listener’s brain on edge (like after downing 3 shots at once and not knowing if you want to run, dance, laugh, cry, or sleep).
4. Bazzi
I am sure you have heard Bazzi’s song Mine, and if you haven’t you need to fix that issue right now. Seriously, stop reading this article and go check him out. Like Garrat, this artist tugs at the slower rhythm and blues feels like a seamstress on a thread sewing a silk gown. For a party-like, wild-night tune, hit up his song Gone. This track is strong, deep, and something that all Post fans would enjoy.
5. G-Eazy
Last, but not least, G-Eazy. Yes, G-Eazy is not new to the scene. He has lots of popular music out and fans love him, but his style isn't stereotypically conventional hip-hop rap. If you are vibing for a straight-up bop with a funky hook and unique undertone, I suggest you check out his jam Leviathan featuring Sam Martin. This song combines G-Eazy slick rap and a soulful quasi-pop chorus to create a work of art that is truly addicting, like opium to the ears.
