This weekend was the first time that I was able to go home since moving into college. My roommates and friends have been able to go home several times now, since they all live relatively close to our university. Since this was a holiday weekend, I realized it was the perfect opportunity to finally get back to Connecticut.
The two hour bus drive felt as if it would never end. I was dying to be home in the countryside with my family. As we drove, I saw all of the beautiful fall foliage; something I had not seen at all since living in Boston.
As my bus pulled into Hartford, I had a new appreciation for Connecticut. Everything felt different, even the air felt crisper. The first thing that my boyfriend and I did was go apple picking. I was afraid that I wouldn't get this opportunity in the city, and was thrilled to be able to go. We had tons of fun exploring the orchard and climbing trees to get to the best apples. We even picked out the cutest tiny pumpkin for me to take back to Boston.
We spent the weekend doing many other fall things such as watching Halloween movies and baking pumpkin muffins. We even enjoyed some nice apple cider. In addition to experiencing all of the Autumn events, I was also able to surprise my two little sisters. I was so excited to see them after not being able to for two months. We made little fall crafts together and did cartwheels outside on the grass. That night, I watched my seven year old sister cheer lead for the high school football team with the JV cheerleaders.
When I got into my car to drive, I realized that I had forgotten some of what I had to do. Since living in Boston, I traveled everywhere by T. Driving my car again was interesting because I had to focus extra hard on the driving process. Using blinkers, checking mirrors, even changing lanes on the highway seemed a little foreign to me.
All in all, I was so happy to be able to go home and experience autumn in the country, rather than solely in the city. Although it was a short visit, I am already looking forward to my next trip home!
