11 New Age Horror Movies That Will Make Your Skin Crawl

In This Article:

BOO! If you are as big of a horror movie fan as I am, you know excellent horror movies are hard to come by sometimes. Ya know, the ones have a terrifying plot and killer acting, it makes you feel as though are a part of the nightmare. Well, here some of my tops favs that almost made me have a panic attack that have come out in the last ten years. I highly recommend you see all of these movies, and believe me they are guaranteed to fack you up.

1. "The Babadook"

This guy is the stuff of anyone's nightmares. Coming from a seemingly harmless childrens book to wreak havoc on a mother and her son, their lives are turned completely upside down. This will movie will keep you checking all corners of your house wondering, where is he lurking? Am I next?

2. Hereditary

I was so impressed by this movie! The acting and plot came together so beautifully and the ending had me thrown for a loop. What makes this movie so interesting is the fact that the horror does not jump out at you, it slowly creeps up on you, leaving you on the edge of your seat the entire time.

3. Insidious

This movie had a rad plot with a boy who could astroproject (soul leaves body and travels into the "Further" where the spirits are) and bringing a demon back with him from the other side. This movie had so many jump scares as well as scenes that messed with your mind but still you couldn't keep your eyes off the screen.

4. Sinister

Children killing adults and elaborate yet realistic murder scenes? Yeah, possibly peed my pants during this flick. Jump scares and an insidious plot make it land on this list. It's a can't miss if you are a horror movie fanatic.

5. The Conjuring

This movie is centered around a badass couple riding people's poltergeists from their lives. The wife is a medium who can sense the spirit world around her. And my god that music box, got me feeling some type of way in the worst way.

6. The Strangers

This movie loosely based off of the Manson Murders in 1969 that left 5 people dead. It will have you asking yourself "why did they even do this in the first place?" The answer will send a shiver down your spine. Don't forget to lock your door wouldn't want any unexpected visitors stopping by.

7. Dead Silence

My lawd this movie is the reason for my deep hatred of puppets to this day. Good ol Mary Shaw who made this killer doll Billy, sends him out to do her dirty work. What dirty work you ask? You'll have to watch and see. But I will give you a hint with this special little poem from the movie, "Beware the stare of Mary Shaw. She had no children, only dolls and if you see her in your dreams. Make sure you never ever scream…Or she'll rip your tongue out at the seam." Very spoopy indeed.

8. It Follows

Although the acting was not my favorite in the movie because it failed to create the sense of suspense I was hoping for, the concept of this movie is still super creepy. Imagine something following you around. It is always moving towards you, you cannot escape it. Better start running.

9. It

Tim Curry will always have my heart is his original role in "It." But Bill Skarsgard honestly killed it (pun intended) with his portrayal of Pennywise the Dancing Clown. Making this classic clown even more demonic than before, I say it is a well done remake and a must see.

The Witch

The Witch is set in the 1600s with a Puritan family when witches were all the rage, and also the biggest fear. There are grotesque scenes, but honestly the creepiest part is is that the whole movie you feel like you are a fly on the wall, watching someone you should not watch. But the thing is, you can't look away

11. A Quiet Place

The only movie I could actually be quiet through. There is only about 50 words spoken in actually dialogue throughout the movie. Even without the dialogue the movie is able to capture the suspense by the score and facial expressions. Now that is what I call acting. This movie will have you shaking in your shoes wondering who or what in the sam heck is stalking this family.

Hope you are very creeped out by now. Because nothing beats a scary movie that leaves you terrified and makes you take a stress bath. Not that I have ever done that after watching these movies… Can't wait to see what writers have in store for us next in the realm of scary movies. The more realistic the better. You know we secretly loved to be scared out of our minds.

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
