Life works in unexpected ways. We spend our entire lives planning for futures that will never become a reality...not in the way we anticipated at least. Nothing in this life goes according to plan, and that's something most of us learn the hard way. But it's okay.
I have always heard that great things happen when you are least expecting them. Well, I sure as hell never expected you.
I haven’t known you long, but I learned recently that time shouldn’t measure relationships. People you’ve known for years can turn their backs on you in a moment. Even the best of friends become strangers. It’s an unfortunate reality.
Sometimes, though, you meet people, and you don’t care how much time has passed or how much is left. The entire concept is thrown out the window. These people make you want to live in the now and simply appreciate the hand you’ve been dealt. Appreciate the chaos.
Life is easy with this kind of person. It’s like walking into a house and suddenly realizing that you’re home. That’s how it felt with you. Unexpected, but simple.
I’m not going to say you’re my other half. You’re not my missing piece. I have no missing pieces, which is another thing that most people learn the hard way. I know I am more than capable of standing on my own, and you understand that, so thank you.
I wasn't looking for you, but I'm grateful that I stumbled upon you. I forgot what it was like to have someone who constantly builds you up, not tears you down. Someone who knows your faults, your shortcomings, and your regrets, and still chooses you every day.
Five years ago, one year ago, and even a few months ago, I wouldn't have imagined my life the way it is today. And yet, I'm grateful.
Someone once told me that happiness is a mood, not a destination. You can't live your life constantly striving for happiness. There will always be ups and downs. Things won't work out the way you wanted them to, but it's okay.
To the one I never saw coming, thank you.
Thank you for coming into my life, however unexpected it may be. Thank you for helping me to appreciate the bumps along the road because they are well worth the moments of happiness. Nothing works according to plan, but that's life, and I wouldn't trade it for anything.
