Why I Will Never Live On Campus Again

Here's to the apartment life.

I go to an incredible school. My professors know me by name, our football team is more than great, and the groups I am involved in are second to none. The campus is absolutely beautiful, and there is nothing like seeing the leaves change with the seasons. However, I never want to live on that beautiful campus again. Here's why.

1. The apartment complex

I love living in my apartment complex. I am close enough to walk to campus on beautiful, and not so beautiful days. My roommates and I have been able to walk to our home football games, which is a blessing when our small town becomes extremely overcrowded. Though our neighbors can be loud, and half the time I have no idea what could be making those crashing noises, I am sure we are just as loud at times, and they put up with us.

2. The roommates

It is fantastic to live with not just one other person, but three other people. I loved my roommate last year and would never trade her for the world, but I love being in my own room and sharing a living room with my three wonderful roomies. There have been many laughs in that living room, as well as many laughs when we all pile onto one of our beds. We are also lucky that our other close friends live just across the way! Why can't all of life be this great?

3. The car

Wow, is it amazing to have access to your car. I struggled last year having to walk about 15 minutes to get my car to go to my job, or to go to off campus class trips, even to get food. Now, it takes me less than a minute to get to my car, and I know she also really enjoys the quality time we get to spend together.

4. The kitchen

Thank the Lord for a real kitchen. I am the kind of person who liked the dining hall for about a week, then was totally over it. I didn't mind the food, I just found it so inconvenient for my busy schedule. It is such a blessing to be able to walk two steps out of your room and make a sandwich in the middle of a hardcore study session.

5. The memories

The memories I have made so far in this apartment are priceless. From having all of our 21st birthday parties here, to making up the game to throw clementines at each other with ladles, our apartment has now become home. There is nothing I like more than coming home and seeing our living room full of smiling faces of our amazing friends.

Though I loved living on campus, this new lifestyle takes the cake! Here's to another year in our little home!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
