My brother and I are not the best of friends, and before his girlfriend became my good friend we barely talked. But something happens when you get older. You realize that your siblings are the friends you will have for a lifetime.
The day after Christmas my brother, who is an avid fisherman, decided to go out in the cold and rain to try to catch something. In these conditions, it is very dangerous to go out on the boat, because if you fall in hypothermia will happen fast. So, he asked me to join him. This is the first time my brother and I have gone fishing together since we were little. At first I thought he was joking or being sarcastic, until he told me I needed a rain jacket and boots.
This memory is something I will not forget. This memory is something I hope to share one day at his wedding, and maybe he can share at mine. We did not catch anything, but it was more than just fishing. That day I realized I had more than a brother, I had a friend.
Whether you are out fishing, road tripping, or hanging out watching Netflix it’s never just the hobby it’s the memories that last. Your siblings are the ones that will be there longer than anyone. They are the ones that have been beside you through every step. They are the ones who understand what you have been through, and they are the ones who love you. Even if you are just the annoying little sister or mean big brother, you love them because they’re family.
