I was only 4 when Flight 93 crashed, but the event has impacted life forever. The field that it crashed in was 7 minutes away from my aunt's home as well as my father's surface mine site.
We were in Shanksville everyday for two weeks after the crash. My father had to be at the site of the crash from 7am to 11pm everyday. My aunt's yard was littered with debri that had to be collected and picked up by the FBI everyday. We found pieces of the exterior of the plane, seats, and even a Quran. My aunt's beautiful front yard had changed into something terrifying.
FBI agents and state police officers were parked at the top of my aunt'ls street, everyday when we drove our, we had to show ID and explain why we were there. We would always take food to those men. My aunt would load soup, cookies, bread, and tons of food into our red wagon and we would walk up to the officers. After standing on duty for hours, you could see their appreciation for the small gesture.
Flight 93 was a terrifying and horrible day in our country's history. For the citizen's of Somerset County, it is especially hard. So many people have person connections. Some have family members who were firefighters or a cop and even worse, some had family on the flight. This day will forever live in our hearts.
