From the day we are born, everyone around us dreams of what is ahead for us. Who will we be? What will we like? Will we play sports or be the valedictorian? Or even both? There are so many questions that people think about for us. But as we grow older we begin to think about ourselves. We begin to wonder and ask ourselves these questions. We begin to dream of what we want our life to look like.
Around the age of 5, we are asked the question of what we want to be when we grow up, and the typical answer is a firefighter, police officer, teacher or ballerina. Some of us actually maintain these goals from the time we are asked to the moment we graduate with our degree, but others have no idea. I, for example, wanted to be a nurse when I was 5, but as I quickly discovered my fear of needles and my strong distaste for shots, that dream soon became unrealistic. As the years went by, I spent my days playing teacher, but it wasn't until the end of high school that I realized it. But there are so many things I wish I could be.
We are taught that we have one calling in life, something we are best at, and that we are to embrace whatever it is. But when you step away from the mainstream view, step out of the box, we realize we have a multitude of "callings."
You can be successful at whatever you wish in life, but you must work for it. Nothing with true value is handed to you, it can only be worked for. The work is not always going to be easy, and you may stumble upon some failures, but they are only obstacles that eventually make you better. It takes time, learning and dedication. A quality dream doesn't come cheap. But once achieved, it is incredibly worth it.
It is so incredibly easy to give up on our dreams. Especially when we encounter a failure, but the easiest way to push forward is to realize that we can overcome our failures and turn them into successes, as they were only learning experiences. You look at the upsides of the failures, what they taught us and where they will take us. Nothing can turn you back but giving up.
Dreaming is believing in yourself. It is believing that anything is achievable. So dream big, dream of what you can do with your life. Dream of who you want to be, where you want to go and who you want to inspire. And in the end, turn your dreams into reality, keep them with you as you go. Use them as a reminder of what you are working for. Just remember most of all that If your plans don't at first succeed, the man upstairs has a plan for you and that with him, anything is possible.
"I can do all things through Him who strengthens me." Philippians 4:13
