Vince Neil, Nikki Sixx, Mick Mars, and Tommy Lee were the four band members that made up the band Mötley Crüe.
The new Netflix movie The Dirt is about the band and about their adventures through the sex and drug-crazed era of the '80s. There were girls, riots, fist fights, cocaine and heroin overdoses, car crashes and stadium venues filled with shouting fans. In 2001 the band told their story to writer Neil Strauss and confirmed all the rumors about their x-rated experiences.
The Dirt director Jeff Tremaine cast rapper Machine Gun Kelly as Tommy Lee, Iwan Rheon as Mick Mars, Douglas Booth as Nikki Sixx and Daniel Webber as Vince Neil. SNL's Pete Davidson played the band's record executive. The Dirt stays mostly true to what the band tells in the book, but some of the stories are not as scandalous as the movie anticipates.
Did the band's first concert end in a fist fight?
According to Sixx and Neil, this was true. The first show ended up with the two in a fight, and they both claim that's what kind of set the precedent of who they wanted to be. The incident gave the band an identity that was rough and had an "anything goes" attitude.
Did Doc McGhee (the band's manager) really knock them around?
According to McGhee, he had to deliver a haymaker every now and then to the band members when they would act out. In interviews, he explained that with Mötley Crüe he had to use full contact to manage them in their drunken or high states. McGhee said that Sixx, Lee, Mars or Neil would become violent at sometimes and it was the only way to handle them.
Was the band really all about girls, girls, girls?
Definitely. In interviews over the years, all the band members claimed that it wasn't uncommon for them to have the occasional "threesome" in every other tour city. Apparently, they weren't opposed to stealing each other's girlfriends either.
What was the inspiration for the song "Kickstart My Heart?"
The inspiration for the song was actually based off a true scene from the movie. Nikki Sixx actually died from a heroin overdose for two minutes and was brought back to life from an adrenaline shot to the heart. That's how to hit song came to be written.
Did the band regret of anything?
That question is left to be unanswered. Each member of Mötley Crüe definitely participated in wild and reckless behavior, but there is little to be said if they actually regretted any of their actions.
