The sun is shining, and summer is here! Thank God. So what do I like to do during the months where there is no stress over school, and I have all the time in the world? The answer is obvious — sit on my couch and binge watch Netflix in my pajamas. Who needs sunshine anyway?
I'd like to consider myself a Netflix expert, and, that being said, I have compiled a list of the best of the best when it comes to TV shows on Netflix. I don't care if you're a boy or girl, these are the shows that will change your life (or just make you watch 16 straight episodes).
1. "Shameless"
I almost cried tears of joy because "Shameless" has been recently added to Netflix. The Gallaghers are a tough and crazy family from Chicago. Fiona, the oldest, is stuck raising her siblings while their father tries to find answers at the bottom of a liquor bottle. You get totally invested into their dysfunctional lives (and it doesn't hurt that they have total hotties on the cast as well). "Shameless" is still being aired on Showtime, so make sure you catch up on what the Gallaghers have been doing before the new season comes out!
2. "Jessica Jones"
Three words: Suspenseful, sassy, superhero
Jessica Jones is not your typical Marvel superhero. She likes her whiskey straight and has one helluva temper. Jessica is facing a terrible case of PTSD and uses her super strength to help those in need, but only if they are willing to pay. Follow Jessica Jones through a journey that keeps you on the edge of your seat. I finished the first season in two days. Netflix has already confirmed a second season, and I’m sure it will be just as addicting as the first season.
3. "Skins"
What's better than British television? The answer is nothing.
Nothing is better than British television. "Skins" would raise topics that most TV shows
wouldn't dare to dive into. Sex, drugs, depression, eating disorders. Not only do they
dig into these issues with honesty, the show presents them in such a way that every episode forces you to learn more about these characters struggling in their youth, and come to identify with them. Odds are you could definitely relate to one of "Skins" characters if not all of them. It’s a shoe that you have to watch the
next episode because the previous episode ended with a major cliff hanger. If you’re
on the fence about starting a seven "Volume" show, just remember, not
only are they real life topics, but they speak with British accents.
4. "One Tree Hill"
I know I said this list was for girls and guys, but hear me out.
This show follows a group of high school students through their lives into
adulthood. Although it may not always the most relatable show, "One Tree Hill" is addicting. My
boyfriend made me watch it because as he put it,
"It made me want to fall in love, then out of love, and then in
love again." And I would have to agree. It's an emotional
roller coaster but totally worth the ride. But I will warn you. There’s a 99 percent chance you will get too emotionally invested into this show. Please remember,
it’s fictional.
5. "Weeds"
I know, it sounds like a lame show, but I can guarantee if you watch one episode you will automatically believe you’re the next Nancy Botwin. Nancy is a suburban widow who was left with serious debt after her husband’s death. Now she has decided to sell pot to get her family enough money to sustain their lifestyle. Follow Nancy through life while her small business explodes with success. After season one you will briefly think to yourself "This could totally be me," until you realize it totally couldn't be you. Ever.
Now I'm not saying these are the only great shows on Netflix, but they are definitely the most addicting. Let this be an official warning: I am not held responsible for loss of sleep, appetite, relationship, etc. due to binge watching any of these shows. Grab some leftovers and get comfortable because you are about to devote an entire summer to Netflix and chill.
