Last week, it was announced that the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga is going to get a new defensive line coach, Davern Williams. This name may sound familiar because Coach Williams appears on Netflix's series "Last Chance U."

This Netflix series, for the past two seasons, has followed East Mississippi Community College's football program, where Davern Williams was the assistant coach, as they fight to win another MACJC championship.

When you watch the show, you will notice that EMCC has some amazing talent, like the talent you would expect from someone on their way to the NFL. But although these players have great talent, they are either struggling with their academics or they made a mistake to get them knocked down from Division 1.

The EMCC football program is like no other, the coaches play a huge on-hands part when it comes to their players' schooling and their lives. These coaches know that their job is to make better football players, but they take it upon themselves to also make great men.

With all that said, as a UTC student and a fan of "Last Chance U," I am beyond excited for Coach Williams to join the Mocs family! I believe that next football season, we are going to see a new fire ignited underneath this UTC football program. Not only are we going to see a change on the field, but we are also going to see a change off the field.

I believe that Coach Williams is going to prepare these young men for more than just a football career, but also for life after football.

Again, welcome to the UTC family, Coach Williams! And GO MOCS!

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
