Recently in my coming-of-age years, I have found a new love and respect for comedy.

My brother, always being interested in it, introduced me to a few different comedians. It didn’t take me long to get hooked. I started searching for new comedians to watch on Netflix and Youtube. Over time, I discovered which ones really made me laugh.

Since I travel sometimes, I decided to watch comedians live in big cities (New York and L.A.). It was such a different experience and made me enjoy comedy that much more. Being someone that doesn’t love public speaking, I really admired comedians being able to get on stage in front of people and say whatever random shit they wanted, while people would die laughing. How amazing is that? Although, if you decide to go see a comedy show live, don’t sit in the front row unless you enjoy being joked about by the comedian in front of a huge audience.

I really think everyone has something to gain from watching comedy, even if it’s just a single laugh. It truly puts me in a better mood and I think it makes me a funnier person.

So, I’ve narrowed down my top 3 favorite Netflix specials:

1. John Mulaney’s “The Comeback Kid”

This is hands-down my favorite special to watch. To me, Mulaney sets himself apart from other comedians. He can take something simple, such as writing a birthday sign and make it insanely hilarious. In this special, Mulaney talks about relationships, his run-in with a baby and the time he met Bill Clinton. “The Comeback Kid” is consistently funny and has something to offer every viewer. If sarcasm and charm are what make you laugh, this one’s for you.

2. Chris D’Elia's “Man on Fire”

Without question, Chris D’Elia is my favorite comedian. He is brutally honest and just outright hilarious. He sets the stage in “Man on Fire” by comparing his appearance to an eagle; the resemblance is uncanny. “Man on Fire” is centered around D’Elia talking about what he thinks love is, how life isn’t all about us, and how he isn’t going to go to your birthday party anymore. The ending to this special is truly amazing. D’Elia ties in everything from the show into one bit in the end and it’s legendary. If you love honesty and a good follow through, you have to check this out.

3. Ali Wong's “Baby Cobra”

First of all, Ali Wong is incredibly pregnant in this special, which is hilarious to watch. She is just waddling around stage telling jokes for a whole hour. Ali Wong truly says whatever she wants to, without hesitation. Her confidence and how to acts out her jokes are amazing. Her comedy is most relatable to women since she mostly talks about pregnancy, how she locked down the perfect guy, and her sexual encounters. But, I think this special will get a laugh out of everyone. If you want crazy stories, great impressions, and a promised laugh, this one’s for you.

In case you're unaware, "resting bitch face" is the term used to describe when a person's natural, expressionless face makes it look like they are mad at the world. Whether they are walking down the street or simply spacing out thinking about what to eat for dinner, it's very easy for others to assume that this person is either upset or mad at them. Because of this, those of us with Resting Bitch Face (RBF), and especially us women, have all experienced many of the same situations and conversations, including:

We've all had a crush before. Whether it leads to something or nothing, the process has all been the same. The awkward feelings, the stalking, and the stress of trying to keep this huge secret. The feeling of becoming a total spazz is something that cannot be avoided, and the most spazzy family that can relate to this feeling is the Belcher's.

At the tender age of 18, we are bestowed with the title of “adult.” For 17 years, we live under the rules and guidelines of our parents, school, and government, and to stray from any of those rules or guidelines marks us as a rebel. At 18, though, we must choose which college we want to go to or what career we want. We are allowed and encouraged to vote. We can buy lottery tickets and cigarettes. We can drop out of school, leave our household, and do other "adult" things. At 18, we start down a path of thinking for ourselves, when for the entirety of our lives other institutions have been mandated to think and do for us.

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.
