It’s another summer day and here you sit, with nothing to do, yet again. It has already been an hour since you’ve woken up and you’re already bored to tears, praying that someone comes and saves you from your misery. However fun the company of another human can be in these cases, I can almost promise you that they will not give you the countless hours of entertainment that Netflix can provide.
If you want that boredom to disappear from your summer and be replaced with endless tear jerking, jaw dropping, edge of your seat, and all life consuming Netflix series, these are the ones you are looking for. Nothing says HAGS (have a great summer- I hope we all remember this from our high school yearbooks) like binge watching a good Netflix series with multiple seasons that seem to never end, that we want to never end.
Grey’s Anatomy:
I am not going to lie; I restrained myself from watching this show until this summer because I knew I would quickly become a Grey’s addict. What’s not to love about a bunch of doctors acting as if they are in a soap opera on daytime television? The majority of their patients have the most insane medical prognoses, coupled with the most touching background stories that guarantee to pull on your heart strings and bring tears to your eyes. This series has the ability to make any viewer wish it were him or herself on that surgical table being operated on by the passionate, compassionate and relatable doctors of the Seattle Grace hospital. Did I mention that the series has ten seasons and there is talk of an eleventh season? Yeah, good luck leaving your room anytime soon.
Orange Is the New Black:
You have all heard the hype on this relatively new Netflix series… Well, THE HYPE IS REAL. Watching an ordinary, suburban, non-delinquent, Caucasian woman being submerged into the atmosphere of prison life is about as comical as you can get. It is funny and emotional but at the same it lets the audience in on some pretty accurate events that can occur in federal prison. That to me is reason enough for this series to peak anyone’s interest. It is unknown territory for a lot of us and this show sheds some light on the life an inmate. And for the males secretly wanting to watch this, with the amount of girl on girl action that takes place within those prison walls, you will be glad you did.
House of Cards:
Now, I know my last two suggestions could be considered to fulfill more of a female’s interests as far as what to watch goes, but this show is an attraction for all. Francis Underwood is the most ruthless politician around and he won’t stop until the world is at his feet. He does whatever he must to achieve greatness. Watching his plans play out on the TV screen leaves the viewer wishing they had even a fraction of the power Mr. Underwood has in his class ring.
Arrested Development:
This series is the definition of an oldie but a goodie. Just look at how star-studded the cast list is. I bet you can’t find one cast member that isn’t known for being absolutely hysterical and this also goes for the special guest appearances on the series. With actors like Michael Cera, Jason Bateman, and Charlize Theron, you can’t help but not laugh at this family falling to pieces in the most out righteous ways.
Gossip Girl:
I am not sure I need to say much about this show. We all know it and we all love it or love to hate it. Some of the hottest human beings are gracing us with their presence on the screen and it would be a shame to let all that beauty go to waste. With drama, deceit, drugs, love, lust, loss and anything else, everything can be thrown at you in an episode and taken back in the same instant. The cliffhangers are killer and the storyline, taking place in New York City, is unlike anything else.
Obviously, there are many more shows that should be watched on Netflix to cure your summer boredom blues. I haven’t even named one fourth of the ones I have seen (yeah I know that’s a lot of Netflix, sorry not sorry). All in all it is hard to go wrong when picking a good show to start binge watching, just be prepared. In my experience, once you start it is hard to stop, but then again why would you want to stop? So, turn on Netflix, curl up in bed or on the couch, put your phone on do not disturb, and watch your boredom become nothing more than a faint memory as the red screen with the white letters fills your TV screen.
