Netflix Recommendations To Watch When You're Bored

From horror to comedy to high school chick flicks, this is a list filled with a variety of entertainment for almost all mature audiences.

The Help (movie)

Giphy

This movie adaptation of the book is ICONIC! I have read the book three times and watched the movie at least four times. Set in 1960's Mississippi, this movie follows a woman named Eugenia "Skeeter" Phelan as she aims to write a tell-all book filled with stories told by the black "help" (maids, nannies, etc.). Also, the "terrible awful", as the incident is referred to, is a bold and hilariously disgusting way to quit a job.

Clueless (movie)

Giphy

This 90's movie is one that I am VERY familiar with. It follows the story of Cher, a naive and kind of selfish trust-fund kid. It's a classic high school movie that follows a lot of movie cliches, from forbidden love to popularity contests. This movie is nice for a pick-me-up with all the comedy and overall happy tones to the story.

All American (TV show)

Giphy

This show follows the intertwined stories of teenagers in the Beverly Hills area. With a strong central focus on family and football, the series shows the teens adapting to new circumstances throughout the season(s). Topics of race, economic class, crime, and privilege are highlighted in the show. These hard topics give the show a more "real" feeling than other high school movies.

Criminal Minds (TV show)

Giphy

This 15 season show is TOTALLY worth the commitment. It follows the cases and personal lives of the agents of the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit. As of June 2020, only 12/15 seasons were actually on Netflix. I have watched the first 12 seasons at least twice because I just love the story lines and the psychology that is used. WARNING: This show is not for the fainthearted.

The Vampire Diaries (TV show)

Giphy

This 8 season series is the classic, vampire/werewolf/human story line. Think "Twilight", but SO much better! With new plot twists and enemies every season, this series is sure to keep you on your toes. BTW, I'm team Delena ALL THE WAY! After watching this series, you can watch both of the spin-offs that are also on Netflix. (The Originals and Legacies)

To The Bone (Movie)

Bridget Hughes

This movie is about a girl named Ellen, played by Lily Collins, and shows the journey Ellen goes through while learning how to manage/beat her anorexia nervosa. She ends up in a group home and struggles with more than just her diagnosis. Even with a tough central topic of eating disorders, this movie still has its hopeful and comedic moments.

Jane the Virgin (TV show)

Giphy

I started watching this 5 season show as an assignment for my Spanish class, but I quickly fell in love with the characters. Displayed as a telenovela, this show is full of dramatic twists and turns that nobody saw coming.

Hart of Dixie (TV Show)

Giphy

This 4 season show follows Zoe Hart as she moves from New York to little Bluebell, Alabama. She inherits a medical practice and attempts to navigate small town life and juggling multiple love interests.

Hush (Movie)

This R-rated movie was one of the most psychological horror movies I have ever seen. Instead of using jump-scares like a majority of recent horror flicks, this movie uses the main character's deafness to add to the suspense.

Soul Surfer (Movie)

Giphy

Based on a true story, this movie follows Bethany Hamilton in her journey of recovery and acceptance after losing one of her arms while surfing. She had been surfing for most of her life and after, she was a source of inspiration for people from all walks of life.

Christmas tree
Librarian Lavender

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
