Netflix: It is a place for distraction, entertainment, and most of all, curiosity.
Established in 1999 but popularized in 2009, the site has gained worldwide attention from its subscribers. One of the most infamous realms of Netflix is the documentary series category. When you're bored or just can't fall asleep, the documentaries tab on reflex will consume your interests. Whether it be murder, politics, or travel, there's something new and weird enough to pique even the most skeptical viewer's interests.
A new Netflix documentary series was released this year called "Chelsea Does." Yes, you heard it, comedian Chelsea Handler produced her own documentary series, and it's just plain brilliant.
The series only consists of four episodes, but each is very unique:
Episode 1: "Chelsea Does Marriage"
This is by far the most light-hearted of the four episodes. Yes, some of them get very deep. This episode highlights Handler's new interest in finding a loved one she can lock down. After interviews with her married friends, the documentary covers many areas of marriage and getting married. From hiring a professional planner to couples getting married by Chelsea herself, to a random BDSM couple, this episode covers everything you never thought you would ever know about marriage. It is a hilarious and very entertaining segment, a great way to introduce the series.
Episode 2: "Chelsea Does Silicon Valley"
In this episode, Handler takes on the struggles of technology. As millennials, it only pains us to watch adults try to learn about tech, but this is not that. In "Chelsea Does Silicon Valley," we watch as she develops her own app, an app that can get you out of awkward dates or annoying parties, which we know we can all use. The app actually gets developed, and really shows what world of app development is really like.
Episode 3: "Chelsea Does Racism"
This episode was actually very different from what you would expect from long-time funny girl Chelsea Handler. In this episode, Handler takes on an investigative journalist approach as she researches racism in the South. She even goes as far as to interview Walter Scott's family after his tragic death. This episode will take you by surprise, but will intrigue you nevertheless.
Episode 4: "Chelsea Does Drugs"
This is probably the strangest yet most hilarious yet most deep of all the episode. It goes into the different realms of the drug industry, namely, getting high. In the episode, Handler even gets high multiple times, which is funny, yet highlights inner reflection. If nothing else sounds interesting, this episode is guaranteed to make you laugh at least once.
Whether you're into documentaries, comedy, or romance, this series has a little bit of everything. It may not be a binge, but it's worth the watch.
