If you're a millennial who spent any time watching Nickelodeon between the years 2004 and 2007, then you probably saw a teenager named Drake and his stepbrother Josh get into countless comedic antics in a show appropriately named "Drake & Josh." Even if you didn't watch Nickelodeon during this time, you've probably seen the show in reruns.
"Drake & Josh" lasted only four seasons, allowing for around 50 episodes and three TV movies, but the show was never canceled. Instead, the creative forces behind the show decided to end it at a time that they felt was appropriate, even though the series was still popular and brought in high ratings. This is contrary to the typical model of American television, where a popular show will continue on for season after season until everything that ever made the show good in the first place gets completely ripped away.
There was just something about "Drake & Josh" that made it the best show for teens on television. Even other, fairly similar shows on Nickelodeon couldn't compete with the brilliance of this one, and "Drake & Josh" is probably the only show on Nickelodeon to ever deserve the term "brilliant". Maybe it was the perfect comedic chemistry between the two stepbrothers, maybe it was the hilariously clever jokes and situations that they always found themselves in, maybe it was the curiosity of discovering what prank their little sister Megan would pull next, or maybe it was a combination of all of these things, plus so much more.
"Drake & Josh" ended too soon, which is why it needs to come back, fully rebooted and better than ever, but not on Nickelodeon because Lord only knows what they have on there these days, but as a Netflix original instead. Netflix needs to reboot this series, similar to how the site rebooted "Full House" and "Arrested Development." These reboots did not exactly compare in quality to the original series,' but it will be different this time. I know it will. Fans of the show will now finally be able to see what ridiculous situations Drake and Josh will get into now that they are adults.
There has been a small amount of talk over the years about potentially rebooting the series, and star Drake Bell has expressed interest in possibly doing it someday. As a society, we need more Drake, and more Josh, and Netflix seems to be the best way to get there. Sure, another channel or website could reboot the series instead, but Netflix will make sure that it gets done right, at least I hope. Overall, their Netflix original series' have mostly been of high quality, so they would have what it takes to bring "Drake & Josh" back.
The last time we saw these two characters was in the TV movie "Merry Christmas, Drake & Josh" but this movie did not give us enough of a satisfactory ending to these characters, and fans everywhere would all love to know what the two stepbrothers have been up to for the past decade.
Besides, it's not like the cast members have done anything particularly significant since the show ended, so they wouldn't exactly be putting their incredible work on hold to return to the series. I mean sure, Drake has his music career and Miranda Cosgrove, who plays Megan, was also in "iCarly" but that show is now over, and as for Drake, well we don't need any more music as badly as we need more of this show. As for the rest of the cast, well I can't really even think of a single thing that any of them have been in since the show ended, so I can only assume that they spend each and every day anxiously staring at their phones, waiting for the phone to ring with the news that a "Drake & Josh" reboot has gotten the green light.
Please Netflix, please reboot "Drake & Josh." Anyone who has watched Nickelodeon at all within the past 15 years will be thankful that you did.
