Netflix started out as a streaming service where most people rented new movies from them. As time went on, they became much bigger and started adding a lot more movies and shows onto their service. For the past few years though Netflix has been releasing their own shows and movies.
Honestly, some of the best movies on Netflix are Netflix Originals. They’ve really stepped up their game with productions, and I think it’s time to give Netflix some recognition.
1. "You Get Me"
"You Get Me" is about a developed obsession with a boy after a one-night stand at a party. Trust me, when I read the description I thought “Wow, I can’t wait to see how dumb this is.” It was actually good, and made me want to throw a remote at the TV.
2. "To The Bone"
"To The Bone" is about an adult struggling with anorexia nervosa, and she meets a new doctor that runs a group home with people alike. This movie is sad, but it is worth the tears. It’s also an important movie considering the mental illness stigma.
3. "Gerald's Game"
"Gerald’s Game" is based off of the novel by Stephen King. If you’ve read the novel, you know that it’s quite…odd. It is definitely different, but I 100% recommend watching it if you’re looking for a creepy movie.
4. "When We First Met"
"When We First Met" is about a guy who is in love with his best friend and uses a photo booth to time travel so he can make her fall in love with him. I expected this to be a cliché movie, and it was a lot better than I thought it would be. Also a good movie to watch with your S/O.
5. "Tallulah"
Tallulah is about a girl searching for her ex-boyfriend, when she kidnaps a child from an undeserving mother and pretends it’s her own. It sounds wild, but it is heartfelt too. It has a similar vibe to the movie Juno.
6. "What Happened To Monday"
This movie is crazy. "What Happened To Monday" is about sextuplet sisters living in a government with a one-child policy in search for their missing sister. It’s a futuristic movie (which I’m usually not into), but the storyline was too good to not enjoy watching.
7. "Amanda Knox"
This is a documentary about Amanda Knox, twice convicted and acquitted for murder. "Amanda Knox" is definitely a documentary for you if you enjoy criminal shows, but even if you don’t I still recommend watching it. You find out some interesting things, and see different perspectives.
8. "Bright"
Another movie I generally would not be interested in, but again had an interesting storyline. "Bright" is a movie where you can analyze the movie and gain more meaning out of it. Humans are not the only main characters, but I thought it was a really good movie (also Will Smith is in it).
9. "The Fundamentals Of Caring"
This might be the sweetest movie you’ll ever see. You will cry happy tears and sad tears. A teenaged boy in a wheelchair that is always stuck in his house goes on a road trip with his caregiver to look for landmarks, but find a lot more in each other than on the road.
10. "Benji"
Netflix did a remake of the original "Benji," and it was the same heartwarming and heartbreaking story we all know and love. If you haven’t watched Benji in a while, give the new one a try— it was amazing.
11. "The Little Prince"
This movie is a little abstract, and it’s not your typical “kids movie.” It’s a really cute movie though, and has a heartwarming message. "The Little Prince" is about a young boy befriending a young girl, and he tells her the story of a boy living on an asteroid.
If you’re looking for some different movies to watch or just bored on a Friday night this a good start to something to watch that won’t make you want to claw your eyes out. Thanks Netflix, you’ve saved many of my weekends.
