The Netflix List Of A 19-Year-Old College Student

My life in movies.

The Netflix List Of A 19-Year-Old College Student

I am obsessed with Netflix. It’s fantastic. You can find a movie for a rainy night in, a show to binge watch on a Sunday, or even something to take your mind off the worries and stresses of everyday college life. I probably spend a little too much time watching things on Netflix. I can still appreciate the genius behind the ability to pay less than $10 a month for thousands of entertaining shows and movies.

My favorite features of Netflix are the List feature as well as the ability to have multiple profiles under one account. This feature means that if I use my dad’s Netflix account (thanks, Dad), I can have a separate profile in my name. So everything he is interested in and watches are found in his profile, and everything I like and watch is in my profile. Your List is a compilation of your favorite shows and movies you’ve come across on Netflix, as well as things you think sound good and you want to save for later.

In the spirit of summer break and the upcoming start to a new year at college, here are all 15 titles in my list on my Netflix account. Keep in mind I’m 19 and just finished my first year of college.

Criminal Minds

Criminal Minds is a staple in my life. I like to solve the cases before the team does. The cast is great. With 10 seasons available for viewing on Netflix, it’s likely you can watch this one for at least a few months.

Tarzan

This is the first of many Disney movies on my list. Tarzan is one hour and 28 minutes long, making it great for a study break filler or something to watch in between classes to get your mind off how much you dislike your last professor.

Lilo and Stitch

With a similar run time as Tarzan, Lilo and Stitch is fun, inviting, and heartwarming all at the same time. I like to pretend I can sing all the words of the opening song.

The Emperor’s New Groove

I actually learned a lot about Mesoamerica in this movie, even though it’s not 100% historically accurate. This is great for those “Ah! You through off my groove!” moments every college student has.

Lost

I recently re-watched all six seasons of Lost. It’s rather cheesy and now that I know the truth, it’s just not as good. However, sometimes I just need a little Dharma in my day.

Corpse Bride

I love Tim Burton movies. They are whimsical yet slightly creepy all at the same time. Corpse Bride is no exception. This movie is short and sweet, perfect for a busy college student.

The Road to El Dorado

This is another semi-educational one. Again, while not 100% accurate (there’s a city of gold, after all), the Road to El Dorado is funny enough for even the sleepiest young adult.

The Prince of Egypt

This movie is essentially the story of Moses from the Bible. Yes, it does have to do religion (not really my thing), but it has a great soundtrack and it is still an entertaining story.

Anastasia

This was one of my childhood favorites. To this day, I still enjoy it from time to time. I remember have a crush on Demetri when I was younger. Turns out he’s animated. So...

United States of Tara

United States of Tara is not for children. The show is three seasons of dissociative identity disorder and it’s HILARIOUS. It’s a must-see for every college student in need of a good laugh.

Antz

While a Bug’s Life is my number one bug movie, Antz is a good second. It’s entertaining, short, and about ants. What more could you want in a Dreamworks movie?

Chicken Run

What could be funnier than watching a bunch of fat, animated chickens try to jump a fence? Nothing. There is nothing funnier. Especially at two in the morning. You’re welcome.

Fixer Upper

You can find two seasons of Fixer Upper on Netflix. The house flipping show, based on Chip and Joanna Gaines from Waco, Texas, is by far my favorite on HGTV. This couple is as cute as can be, which just helps their case.

What’s Eating Gilbert Grape

This movie, made in 1993, is older than I am. It is not a children’s movie like most of my list is. The cast includes Johnny Depp and Leo DiCaprio. They were so young! I suggest you check this one out.

Minions

The Minions movie is cute. Plain and simple. These little characters that resemble Twinkies set out on an adventure to find a new evil “boss”. I love it. Oh, and they don’t speak English.

As you can see, most of my List consists of kid movies. I have a love for Disney. I’m not talking Frozen (my least favorite children’s movie of all time). I’m talking late 1990s and early 2000s movies. And while an adult movie or show sneaks its way in every now and then, I think we can all clearly see I’m a child at heart. The truth is, movies made for children are just relaxing. They help you clear your mind from the stresses that come with college life. That’s what Netflix is all about, I suppose. If you don’t have an account yet, go get yourself one. You can thank me later.

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

Happy Birthday Cake

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?

I've been super busy lately with school work, studying, etc. Besides the fact that I do nothing but AP chemistry and AP economics, I constantly think of stupid questions that are almost impossible to answer. So, maybe you could answer them for me, and if not then we can both wonder what the answers to these 15 questions could be.
