Netflix Favs For Winter Break Binging

Since the time for snow is just around the corner, I figured I'd give you an insight on a few of my favorite Netflix shows and movies because snow days are the best for staying in bed and watching Netlfix!

1. "The Ivory Game"

Leonardo DiCaprio produced "The Ivory Game" as an awareness film against trafficking with elephant tusks.

2. "Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life"

They're back: Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel, in four 90-minute chapters moving through the seasons. Other WB returnees include Kelly Bishop, Scott Patterson and Keiko Agena.

3. "Easy"

Sex, tech and culture intersect in a Chicago-set half-hour anthology from filmmaker Joe Swanberg. This short includes Orlando Bloom, Marc Maron, Malin Akerman, Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Hannibal Buress.

4. "Haters, Back Off'

Totally untalented star Miranda Sings, on YouTube, pursues her big-time dreams in eight-episode comedy from YouTube favorite Colleen Ballinger. Also stars "Office" star Angela Kinsey and "Eastbound & Down" dude Steve Little.

5. "Stranger Things"

If you haven't seen it, you've heard about it: Netflix's runaway success of summer 2016 is jam-packed with '80 nostalgia. Winona Ryder plays the mom whose son's disappearance is at the center of simultaneous investigations involving the police, his friends and a mysterious girl with unusual powers.

6. "The Ranch"

Ashton Kutcher comedy finds a failed footballer returning to his Colorado ranch clan.

7. "Making A Murderer"

If you've been able to resist the hype surrounding the Netflix true crime documentary, what are you waiting for? The 10-part series is extremely dense, and while it can be slow at times, stick with it for the curveballs.

8. "Jane The Virgin"

In "Jane The Virgin," Gina Rodriguez stars as a virgin determined to wait until marriage... until her doctor accidentally artificially inseminates her, mistaking her for the wife of the manager at the hotel where she works. That's when the complications begin.

9. "Friends"

The Internet collectively lost its mind when the complete adventures of Joey, Phoebe, Monica, Chandler, Ross and Rachel became available on Netflix on Jan. 1, and with good reason. How better to bring in the holidays than by binging on one of the best sitcoms of all time?

10. "Law and Order: SVU"

An edgy drama following police investigating the most twisted of crimes. Even Seth Rogen can't turn it off, confessing on Twitter recently, "there is no limit to the amount of Law and Order: SVU I can watch in a single sitting." Same, Seth, same.

11. "The Blacklist"

The hit drama stars James Spader as a terrorist helping the U.S. nab other baddies for reasons unknown. Newcomers can catch up with the entire first season on Netflix.

12. "Roseanne"

The perfect casting, the witty writing, the depictions of blue-collar life that so many Americans can relate to -- there's just so much to love about "Roseanne." Fans will likely have one gripe: Netflix is currently featuring a "collection" of episodes, rather than full seasons. But a sampling of the Conner clan is better than nothing!

Now, those are only a few of my favorites. Pick one, grab your blanket and a snack, and enjoy!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
