Netflix Is A Blessing AND a curse

Dear Netflix, I love you and I hate you!

Netflix Is A Blessing AND a curse

Reed Hastings is the cause of lost sleep, bad grades, and regrettable moments everyone in America refers to as "Netflix and Chill." Hastings's gift to the world feels similar to a blessing and curse in my life. For the past two years, I've spent a majority of my free time watching every great television series from Grey's Anatomy, Law & Order, Gossip Girl and Glee.

Netflix is my favorite past-time because I enjoy watching uninterrupted television with the ability to pause and re-watch all of my favorite moments. Many series on Netflix are so captivating that I lose track of time and before I know it, my bladder is about to burst and it is 3 am. I consider this a curse of Netflix, because after a night of binge watching I am exhausted and struggle with focusing on any task. Binge watching is great... when I have nothing to do. During the summer, I binge watch Grey's Anatomy all day until my boyfriend forces me to leave the house. Did I mention I hate him? Anyway, it's great because I am able to enjoy an amazing series even when it's off air.

I accredit any of my bad grades to the series Law & Order. I would much rather watch a thrilling episode filled with crime than study for a math test. Olivia Benson was an incredible distraction in high school, and an even better one in college. During the school year, I would put on an episode of SVU just to unwind, and before I knew it I was on my 4th episode, asleep and valuable study time has passed. I always seem to fall for the "this is the last one" trick! I honestly have no self control. When I am in my world of Netflix I forget about major tests and papers. If Netflix is truly an addiction that ruins my life.

Because my mother taught me to be wise, I have not experienced a "Netflix and Chill" experience personally, but my friends often share their horror stories with me. This is another great aspect of Netflix. It always seems to work its way into a hook up and gossip. I can even enjoy the outcomes of Netflix through other people. The hot horror stories I hear through my friends are so funny it's as if I am watching a series within itself.

Athough the outcomes of Netflix are not always positive, I'm honestly in love. I enjoy watching old television shows without commercials. Netflix is always a great excuse not to do homework. And I am in love with Netflix because it temporally destroys my friends lives and create great stories.

Feel free to add comments about how Netflix ruins your life!!

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?
