Netflix and College

Picture this. You are sitting in your dorm on a rainy day absolutely bored and cannot think if anything to do. You begin to look on social media and come across this article... And what is this article about you may ask? Well, here it is. Ever wonder what to do when there is nothing to do? Watch Netflix! When you are in college, Netflix is going to be your best friend on lonely nights or at times where you just want to relax and enjoy yourself. Now, what I suggest is that, if you become a frequent "Netflixer" like me, you will learn that there are so many great television shows on there that you cannot decide where to start. This is where I step in and help. Here are my top two television shows a college student should watch.

"How I Met Your Mother"

At first I was very iffy on whether or not I should watch this show. After watching the first episode, I was hooked. This show is about a group of five friends who live in New York City and love to hang out in a bar together. The group consists of Ted (the romantic who can never seem to find his one), Barney (the womanizer who secretly wants a wife and a family), Robin (the Canadian who pursues her dream career while discovery what she really wants in life), Marshall (the Minnesota man who dreams of saving the world one day, whether it is being an environmental lawyer or a judge), and finally, Lily (an inspiring artist who has been together with Marshall for 12 years and is a kindergarten teacher). It is a great show containing comedy, some drama and can relate to groups of friends.

" Grey's Anatomy"

I am sure many of you have heard of the well known television show "Grey's Anatomy." Like HIMYM, at the beginning, I thought I would not like this show, but after a few episodes I could not get enough of the show. I binge watched it for night on end. It is about doctors in a hospital and their every day struggle to be one, and what goes on behind closed doors...literally. The viewer also gets a glimpse of the drama that goes on, in regards to relationships, family and other personal issues. In the first three seasons, there is George O'Malley, Izzie Stevens, Alex Karev, Meredith Grey, Derek Sheppard, Miranda Bailey, and Richard Webber. Later on, other doctors come aboard while some either die or leave. I know there are many nurses who like this show just as much as I do, and they probably understand the show better than I do. Overall, this show can keep you on your toes and all the while make you fall in love with each of their characters.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
