Nervous: easily agitated or alarmed; tending to be anxious; highly strung.
Being nervous is sort of like having anxiety.
You're shaky, your hands, your legs, your voice. Heat begins to spread over your cheeks like a wildfire until you know they are that embarrassing shade of pink. You avoid eye contact and talk as little as you can to avoid any more attention.
Being nervous can stem from a lot of things, but mostly fear.
Being afraid to be judged, being laughed at, standing out in a negative way.
Being nervous can stop you from doing A LOT of things it shouldn't.
Simple things like talking to that person you have been dying to, speaking up for something you believe in, going to a study group...writing something people you know will read.
Big things like doing something you love, getting up and leaving, losing a friendship, or changing your major.
A person is often nervous because of a bad situation they were in, but not all situations are the same, not everyone will laugh at you. Some people will watch and be glad you finally did it. Loved ones and friends will support you, and if they don't, you don't need them. Most people will not say a single word to you because it has nothing to do with them. People grow up, people stop laughing, and people stop caring.
So go out and wear whatever you want, say what you feel, mean what you say. Tell that person that you love that you love them, you will never know what would happen if you don't. An "oh well," is easier than a "what if." Go to a study group and write that article you have been too nervous too. Get up and leave a negative situation, some one will be there waiting will open arms glad that you did. Change your major to something you love rather than something you would make money with. Get up and move to California.
Because in reality, people do not care. You only get one life so do not waste it being nervous.
Be bold and be you.
